HEADMASTER'S THE MESSAGE This first Savannah Country Day School an'nual has as its symbolic theme the high tide. Each new year throughout the long future history of the School will be like a new cycle of the tide. There will be the flow of new students at the beginning, and the ebb of departing graduates at the end of each year. But underneath this minor pulsation there must always run a deeper flow--a current of zeal and dedication to a purpose. That purpose is summed up in the word Responsibility. Education really means learning Responsibility: toward ourselves, to bring out the best that is in us morally, mentally, and physically, toward our families, to justify the high hopes in which they have given us this schooling, toward our fellow men, to foster the qualities of citizenship, service, and leadership that will make for a better community and a better world. But in this first year or two particularly, there is one added Responsibility-our Responsibility toward the future of the School. The older generations of Savannah have given us this School in faith and trust. They look to its students in its beginning years to establish the erprit, the character, that will endure throughout its future, and will touch the lives of every one of the hundreds and hundreds of boys and girls who will pass through the School in the years ahead. This is a great Responsibility, and must be met greatly. ' R. W. TRUSDELL
