As you leave Sauquoit Valley Central School you may look back and realize that you've had some fun and some heartaches--some failures and some successes. The future will provide similar experiences for you. But remember--the degree of success each of you may enjoy is an individual responsibility, There is no substitute for hard workl I hope that you will be constructive and helpful in the national and local community prob- lems which concern all of us--in participating in elections, in providing good educational pro- grams for your children, in helping to improve the community in which you live, and above all, in supporting your church, Knowledge is vital, but it is not as important to know some- thing as it is to do something with what you know. And lastly, it is my personal view and firm belief that no matter what occupation or profession you may choose for your life's work, you will be successful if your love of people is exceeded only by your love of God. On behalf of the Board of Education, the faculty and myself, I wish each and every one of you Good Luck, Success, and God Speed! All together, the team numbers approximately eighty-six Qrather unorthodox footballj, The Officers are: Gloria Plourde, Presidentg Jane Wilder, Vice President, Dick Jones, Secretary, Willis Bartlett, Treasurer. For freshmen, many compete in extracurricular activities, especially in the fields of cheerleading and basketball. June comes and the team breaks up prom- ising to meet again next September, As for the season. . .well, there is always next year. The team does meet at the set date and, save for a few members, all are there to ready themselves for the coming season. The coaches, Mr, William McClary, Miss Jeanette Farmer, and Mrs. Dorothy Owens, predict a good year, . . and it is. Under the leadership of Ron Menard, President, Willis Bartlett, Vice Presidentg Philip Ray, Secre- tary, and Jim Whitton, Treasurer, many substantial gains are made, The sophomores, as they call themselves, are in every sport, . . football, basketball, wrestling, baseball, not to mention choir, band, ensemble, and cheerleading, It was this year that the team set up the Barton Cobane Memorial and Plaque, They raised money for their treasury by giving a dance, and holding a bake sale. All considered it a good year and agreed to meet again in a few months, With their name changed to Juniors, the team is ready for their third year of com- petition, The coaches this year are Mr. James Bryne, Mrs, Marjorie Burke, and Miss Jeanette Farmer. The President is still Ron Menard, with the new officers: Jim Crowe as Vice President, Dick Jones as Secretary, and Edward Gibbons as Treasurer. Natur- rally, as Juniors they have a wonderful season, participating in everything, As to special awards, Jane Kelly won the Elmira Key Award, and Jim Whitton went to Boys' State. Awards were not just won at school, Dave Williamson won the tournament and sectional in his weight class in wrestling and Don Howard won the Sauquoit Car Rodeo, To raise money for their growing funds, they held a dance and sold candy and magazines, Of course, all agree to meet again once more for their last season. This was the team, Calling themselves Seniors and led by that master coach, Mrs, Helene Prichard, and her assistant coaches, Mr. Charles Strong and Mr. William Conroy, they rolled onto the field avenging their many defeats. This year they elected Lorraine Swier as President: Justin McLoughlin, Vice Presidentg with Jane Kelly as Secretary and Fred Wenz as their Treasurer, What a yearl ! I Every sport and activity was dominated by Seniors. Outstanding plays of the season were Jane Wilder's winning the D. A. R. award, Michael Donahue's winning the Constitution Oration, Philip Ray going to All State, and many, many others that couldn't all be mentioned, The year neared its end and the pace quickened. Between cramming for their finals, the Seniors held a dance, their last, and finally took the long awaited trip for which they had been striving for four long years, then. . .Graduation, the last play of the game. The gun goes off and it's over. The team breaks up, always to remember this game as the best one they ever played and won! I I ALTON, RUTH Band 1, 2, 3, 4, NYSSMA 4, Yearbook staff 4. The Sauquoit Valley Central School Varsity Club has a limited membership due to the fact that in order to belong a boy must earn a varsity letter in one of the major sports. These sports are football, basketball, wrestling, track, and baseball. A boy who earns a letter as a manager may also qualify for membership. The two big events of the year for the Varsity Club are the Varsity C1ub's annual sock dance in the fall of the year, which finances the purchase of jackets for the club members, ln the spring there is a banquet for members of all athletic teams and their parents, at which the awards and trophies are presented for the outstanding athlete in each sport. The North award is presented to the outstanding all around athlete of the year. Winner of the award in 1956 was Edward Terns and in 1955, Philip Yapalo. sf' I N 1: 5,2 g m Y V ' -- 4 f fi Lx 1 sl ,HZMZSZ4 JANE KELLY C aptain Varsity ANN TUTTLE Cheerleaders MARY LOU KRESS BARBARA KELLY IUDY GENDRON DONA JONES MAUREEN ROBINSON SUE BROWNELL CLAIRE RICHARDS I V DAWN LUDLOW ,Q GERTRUDE YAGER Captain Cheerleaders DOROTHY CEHONSKI Football , I' 3 ki.v i,I,' U1f '73Q 2'20 'n .
