'W NCE again a group of young people approach the time when they are about to leave our midst after a sojourn of several years. You, who are about to leave our school family will face new situations, new sets of conditions, new associations which will demand different responses on your part. We, the faculty, who have attempted to show you some of the paths, realize that we, or for that matter no other group, could ever adequately prepare you to meet many of these problems with set patterns of behavior. Life in 1948 is entirely too complicated to begin to establish rules of conduct or action to meet all conditions. Never- theless, there are certainf basic principles of good living which are worth following. You should realize that these have been stressed, emphasized and repeated time and time again for your benefit, not only in groups, but also on an individual basis. In our small school we have had an opportunity to know each other as individuals much better than is possible in larger school systems where pupils frequently go through four years of high school without ev- er getting acquainted with each other as a group or with the staff, except perhaps in small groups or cliques. Frequently you, no doubt, have felt this was a distinct handicap, for oftentimes we have antici- pated some of your moves and have taken precautionary measures. By and large, you have had a fairly easy task and way of living while attending your school, particularly if you did your work with a fair degree of consistency, perserverance and accuracy. Such habits of industry and good conduct should pay dividends to you in the long run. To be successful in life you need not necessarily become millionaires or acquire more than your share of the world's goods. We hope you will be the type of person others will look up to - one whom others will feel they can trust, go to for help and advice. In other words, be a friend. Conduct is a good test of intelligence. Don't follow the crowd just for the sake of the ride. Use those gifts which you have - make them count. The future will be what you want to make of itg opportunities are wide open - in fact, they so far surpass any we have ever had that there is no comparison: but in your zeal for suc- cess - be true to yourself. We, who remain behind, wish you good luck. We shall always be interested in your progress. Come back to see us, we shall always be glad to see you. xfdifewg
