, rr ig? ,misty Through the Years This year Sault Ste. Marie is celebrating the one hundredth anniversary of the first lock, built in 1855. Since that time three new locks have been built, and the first lock has been replaced to provide adequate facilities for our modern ships. The end sheets in our book show the lock area as it appeared in the years when the old State Lock served all the traffic, and the American locks at the present time. It was not until thirty years after the building of the State Lock that the first student was graduated from Sault High. On our division pages we have tried to suggest the contrast between the old and the new in education. The pictures and the copy throughout the book reflect the many activities and courses which have been added throughout the years, Here is Sault High of 1955g it is as different from the school of 1855 as the present series of locks is from the original lock.
