iff- CQM CZQDfFLgS XY'ith .1 powerful backwash of the propeller, the 111usic department cadets roared off to .1 line start this year. The target for one winter night was the Bondbardment Concert at which the band and choir raised 545,000 in bond pledges. XWC could never have hit this bull's eye without Chief Thomas as navigator. He could be heard in every part of the hanger plotting tl1e course to victory. To boost further the sales, the music-minded minstrels dedicated the S585 which was cleared at the door to buy .1 s5UU bond. Tl1is little item will help buy new equipment PMB. pafter lierlinj. The bombing missions for the singing cadets. the choir, l1.1ve been numerous tl1is year, for they have appeared in Christmas Vespers, at tl1e Chamber of Commerce. .1IILl .1t Kiwanis Club. Tl1e l7.lI'Ikl received boot training i11 numerous parades. at football games, at tl1e railway station to bid the boys adieu, at basketball games, .111d at assemblies. The string cadets, the orchestra, were caught in a downdraft of playing-at Christmas Vespers, at Thanks- giving and Easter assemblies, and at graduation in a neatly turned performance. Harmony Honeys, otherwise known as tl1e octet, didn't let any ice form on their wings either. They performed at all service clubs, at several assemblies, and at the Good liriday service at the Methodist Church. Music cadets lriscilla Hunt, Amelia Stabile, Betty Rutter. Lesly Bag- 1 s l an of Song nall, Paul Edward, Alvin Payment, Bob Ellena, and Al- bert Dalimonte compose the group, which is navigated by Betty Kuderling at the piano. That inspired looking group named Thomas,s Tom- catsu is generally known as the dance band. They iived at all-school parties, Youth Center dances, and at the Evening News banquet. The hep cats .1re well-known in the vicinity of the music room as Irva Hillock. Pat Arm- strong, -Iennette Ladd, Elizabeth XY'illi.1ms, Phyllis XY'oo.l- ard, Frances Splan, Claire Lamontagne, Bob Vfade. Shir- ley Lever, Tony Pevarnic, XY'ayne Barnes, Sam Marra. .lllkl lirank Levin. The Censored band was attacked by gremlins on its initial tlight. These inconstant little Fifanellas decreed that tl1e fellas were too Anierican to be German. and so they gnawed away the n.1me just .1s the censor does. In spite of it .1ll, Bob XVade, Eugene Hannahs. Lee Stanley. Sam Marra, and Shirley Lever survived their crash dive and have toured the town of Marquette and Sault Ste. Marie. They also played .1 one night stand at the junior Red Cross Carnival. Last spring Chief Thomas donned his flying suit and zoomed down to St. Louis, Missouri for the National Music Educators' Conference. One of the themes was the idea that music should be for everyone. The more students participating in a musical organization, the better that organization will be. This has long been Chief's philosophy as is shown by the size of the band and the chorus.
