Dear Classmates; The time went as quickly as they always said it would, and now we’re nearly on our own. The future has arrived. And yet, we shouldn’t face it with uncertainty. We should take control of our lives and become the best we can possibly be. New and different challenges lie ahead for each of us, yet they are not insurmountable. Whether you will be continuing your education, getting a job, or entering the military, I wish you the very best. Gool luck, and let’s always try to keep in touch. Dear Friends; I am from Arras, a town of fifty-five thousand inhabitants in the north of France near Belgium. It takes about two and one half hours to go to Paris, a big tourist place. Since the age of fourteen. I have wanted to go and to visit your country. It was my dream, so I decided to give mv application to AFS and my dream became a reality! The first day, when the plane took off in New York City, I was thoughtful, excited, and nervous! I shared and found a lot of things in Sack-Prairie; first, a great family, the Richardson Fami- ly. because I had the opportunity to share their life during all this year. I feel very secure and confident of myself with them. I also got an AFS sister. Mary, with whom I got along very well. While here, I made a lot of friends, and I want to thank all of them for all the moments we had together. I learned a lot of things in your school like playing softball, and I also learned more things about your football, because in France we usually play soccer. The subjects were different and your school is very friendly and offers a lot of activities like: AFS club, French Club, Cheerleaders, Football, Basketball games etc. I will never forget this year because it fills a big place in my heart! I will miss all of you!! Cette anne 'e a e'te'treRs spe'cial pour moi, et restera inoubliable. Je souhaite vous revoir un de ces jours, promis!! Anne Delacroix Dear Friends; To put it mildly, this past year has been the best I’ve ever had and will pro- bably stay that way. Coming from a city into a small country town is some transition. I couldn’t have made it without my close friends and especially the Thomas Troestler fami- ly. This school is very special and everyone I’ve met is special to me. Contrary to what many may think, the weather is perfect. Being and avid skiier, I love the snow and cold winters. You also have super warm summers to even it out which makes it beaut. It rarely reaches 20 °in winter or 85°in summer in my state. Life there is much different. You have the “typical” American High School with the cheerleaders, jocks and chaos when the bell rings. Our school doesn’t have anything like that. Going to a football or basketball game is in itself an experience. I was very fortunate to have been selected to come here to Sauk Prairie. It’s a beaut place to spend a year. It’s left me lots of happy memories. I hope this past year has taught you a little of my country because it has taught me a great deal of yours. All through the year, the Senate works with the ad- ministration to meet the needs of the entire student body. The club had their traditional pizza and candy sales. French cuisine was an important part of the year, with trips to various French restaurants such as Chez Michel, and a French breakfast with croissants and cafe au lait. One of the highlights of the year was the trip to the Folk Fair in Milwaukee. It was a busy and fun year for everyone. 86 SPANISH AND GERMAN CLUBS Row 1: Paul Weiss — President. The Marching Band completes a show at the UW-River Falls competition. 97 BAND Band is one of the most demanding activities in school because it is both a class and an extra curricular activity. Outside of the daily class are activities such as pep band and marching. The marching program is mandatory in the fall, but optionall in the summer. Through these marching programs the band has represented the community in parades and field shows in both Wisconsin and Illinois. It was a special year for the band; once again they were invited to compete at the Festival of States competition in St. Petersburg, Florida. Activities included performances at Sea World, the Epcot Center, several parades and concerts, and the highlight of the trip; the Field Show competition. To prepare for this event, students submitted to a rigourous practice schedule, but the memories of this trip would more than make up for the long hours of practice. 98 The many facets of band (clockwise) football games, field competitions, pep band and parades. 99 BOYS’ CROSS COUNTRY 1985-86 Cross Country Conference Champs — Varsity Team — Row 1: Rick Eilertson, Kim Smith. Earning conference honors were: Shawn Breunig as first team defensive lineman; Tim Ganser as second team center; Todd Breunig, offensive tackle on the second team; and Mike Sorge, who garnered spots on the second team at both offensive and defensive ends. Despite the slow start, the team showed fine character and unity. The varsity team was made up of one senior; Juniors — Kelly Breunig, Cheryl Bruckert, Tiffany Hodges, Pauline Lohr, Dee Dee Zeman; and one sophomore — Shelly Hutter. The Junior Varsity consisted of three seniors-Sue Kindschi, Mary Liegel, and Becky Rozovics; three juniors — Diane Ballweg, Mary Richardson, Lori Ziemke; and two sophomores — Tracy Dohm and Renee Rieder. A triple overtime loss, three two point losses, and two one point loses were exciting games, but not wins. This year’s senior dominated team made strides to improve Sauk Prairie basketball and will be missed. Daryl Loether was selected as the team’s MVP. Conference wins over Moneroe and Monona Grove were highlights of the season. 112 J.V. Boys’ Basketball. Row 1: Derek Peetz, Mark Schwartz. Darin Frey. Mike Rozovics. Scott Breunig, Ted Frey. The Eagles used twenty-two dif- ferent wrestlers during the season in the Varsity line-up. The high point for the team was that they overcame these obstacles and ended the season 10-3 overall and 5-1 in the conference for second place in dual meets. Individual accomplishments were achieved by Todd Breunig, who finished second at 167 lbs. in the Badger Conference, and Steve Selden at 185 lbs. who finished first at the regionals. Even though many of the Junior Varsity wrestlers were moved up to Varsity, the J.V. team was able to achieve a 8-6-1 overall record, and a 3-2-1 record in the conference. vam 116 Varsity and J.V. BOYS’ SWIMING The boys’ swim team went nowhere but up from last year’s second place finish at the conference meet. The Eagle swimmers cap- tured a proud Southern Swim Conference ti- tle with a total team effort. They dethroned defending champion Jefferson, defeating them by a slim but very decisive margin of nine points. The twelve team Southern Swim Conference was stunned by the Eagles’ unparalleled per- formance. SPHS did not take first in any in- dividual event; instead they relied solely on their tenacious team depth to outdistance all competitors. The Eagles not only performed well at the conference meet, but they also compiled an impressive dual meet record of 7-1. Their record earned them the Western Division Championship in the large Southern Swim Conference. Coaches Rick Conroy and Dean Lovell, along with team captains Brad Hutter and Brad Uselman couldn’t have been more pleased with the season outcome. Team honors went to Eric Risley and Brad Uselman for MVP, Scott King and Rick Eilertson for most im- proved, and Jason Whitt for most dedicated. 120 GOLF Jeff and his opponent check each other’s scorecards for “accidental mistakes.” Coach Rodencal figures scores. ADMINISTRATION Dr. John Foster — Principal Seniors, an important aspect of your life will change with the com- ing of graduation. It is important not to look back in regret, but to look forward to your future and the challenges that lie ahead. The years you spend together as a class should be remembered fondly, but now is the time you should apply what you’ve learned toward the future. Challenge the future, do not let the future control you. Mr. Jerry Rosso — Assistant Principal High schools across the nation are going through considerable change. An emphasis has been placed on intellectual and academic achievement. This emphasis can be realized and still continue to focus on a comprehansive high school which meets the needs of all students. Students at Sauk-Prairie High School continue to score higher than both the national and state averages on standardized tests. The resources are here to achieve an excellent education. The only limiting factor is the limitations that the student places on himself or herself. I encourage each student to take a risk, stand out, and achieve.
