Eagle Echo 1985 Sauk Prairie High School 105 Ninth Street Prairie du Sac, Wl Volume XXI This school year marks rhe 20rh anniversary of our school building. On June 1, 1961, Souk City and Prairie du Soc communities consolidated their school districts to become rhe Souk Prairie School Disrricr. Approval of o bond issue to build a new school was April 12, 1962, with ground breaking on December 18 of rhe some year. Completion of rhe building was in February 1964 or o cost of $1,919,722.43. Enrollment at that rime was 714 students with 44 faculty members. In 1967, rhe swimming pool was constructed and adjoined to rhe gymnasium. In our brief history, enrollment figures hove exceed- ed 950 students. Our present enrollment is 753 stu- dents with 54 faculty members. Curriculum changes throughout rhe years have allowed students rhe op- portunities for vocational os well as courses in rhe academia. Sauk Prairie High School boasts an excellent athletic program which stresses self-discipline and physical fit- ness. With rhe WIAA ruling in 1970 that requires public schools to provide girls rhe some opportunities for participating in sports os boys, our athletic program swelled in number. The girls' athletic program has been equally as outstanding as rhe boys. In 1973, Sauk Prairie High School presented its first oil- school musical. An instant hit, rhe production of a musical continues to be one of rhe highlights of rhe extracurricular activities available for students' involve- ment. Sauk Prairie High School takes pride in its students and their outstanding contributions to it and rhe com- munity. Indeed, we are a school of champions nor only on athletic turf, bur on rhe stage as well!
