0, 7 gf gs- lf. SPORTS REVIEW FOOTBALL Sauk Centre started the football season with an inexperienced team. The team opened the season with a win over Osakis and this proved to be their only victory. ln many games during the season the Streeters looked promising but were over- come by heavier and more experienced teams. Led by Captain Dave Gallup and Most Valuable Player Connie Kettler, the team showed lots of spirit. Although this was not a victorious season, it is thought that much valuable experience was gained. Jerry Dold was elected captain for the coming year. BASKETBALL The Mainstreeters, after losing their first game, got into the win column by defeat- ing Osakis. Although the team was rather small, they made up for this deficiency with a lot of fight and snap. Ron Krause was the high point collector for this yearis team. The team was captained by Connie Kettler who kept the team spirited and fighting. Next 'year's team will see a host of lettermen returning. BASEBALL Sauk Centre began the 1954- season with a young but experienced team. The team had nine returning lettermen, plus other players who saw considerable action in 1953. Captains of the 1954- team are Ron Krause, Bill Mueller and Ken Cornell. The 1953 team, captained by Donn Loe and Carl Kaufman, went to the semi-finals in the District 22 tournament where they were beaten by Evansville. TRACK The outcome of the 19541 track season is quite unpredictable, although we have a number of lettermen in this sport also. The team is certain to feel the loss of Don Toenies who led Sauk Centre to 3rd place in the 1953 District Meet. This 1954, team has a very respected captain who is Don Messerich. 52
