Sullivan, J. Wiswall, M. Smelstor. Missing From Photo: D. Westaway. FOOTBALL 1971 The grade nine football team experienced a rough season ac- cording to Coach Petrone and assistant coach Collins. The overall team record was 1-6-1. The Saugus red and white did however exhibit spirit throughout the entire season aided by the newly formed cheerleading and pep squads. Outstanding defensive players were S. Spinney and J. Wiswall while offensive standouts were J. Favara and S. DesLoges with J. Markowski also noteworthy. Two eighth graders, D. Mackie and T. HOCKEY ROUNDUP 1972 The 1972 hockey team coached by Mr. Manoogian had an outstanding season this past year. The overall team record was 3-1-4. The team was aided in its ef- forts by the scoring efforts of the Courtierier brothers, Scott and Dave along with the efforts of Jim Scannel and Scott Prentice. The team ' s brother duo was also outstand- ing in the area of assists. The goalie, Fred Barnett had an excellent season with only one loss. In general the team managed to put forth outstanding effort and come up with a winning season. Congratulations, team! Basketball 1971-1972 The freshman basketball team experienced a winning season during the 1971-1972 school year. There were ten wins and only six losses (four of which were by only two points or less). Coach Bryan did an outstanding job of coaching the team by instilling both spirit and enthusiasm in the team. Team leaders in field goals were Steve Spinney, Marty Holloran, Bob Smith and Steve DesLoges. Leading the team in defensive steals were Marty Holloran, Jim Duplisea, Steve DesLoges, and Steve Spinney. Leading rebounder was Steve Spinney, along with Steve DesLoges and Bill Mc- Carthy. Leading in assists were Marty Holloran, Steve Spinney and Steve DesLoges. Steve Spinney and Marty Holloran scored the most free throws during the season. New Saugus Junior High records were established this year. - Most field goals by an individual in one game - Steve Spinney - 14 - Most rebounds by an individual in one game - Steve Spinney - 34 - Most Points scored by an individual in one period - Marty Holloran - 18 The entire basketball squad is to be congratulated for an outstanding year. Bob Smith finished 12th out of 350 runners in Catholic Memorial meet. . . . Bob Smith finished 11th out of 90 runners in Wakefield freshman meet. . . . Bob Smith finished 9th out of 70 runners in the Northern Area meet. . . . Bob Smith finished 3rd out of 80 runners at the Northeastern Conference meet. The team, although small in num- ber represented the Junior High by putting forth outstanding effort under the guidance of Mr. Bryan and Mr. Smith. Congratulations, team! Join a Group SIGN HERE Audio Visual Aids The Audio Visual Aids Club under the expert direction of Mr. Lindquist is an ever changing club which seeks to meet the progressive needs of teachers and students in A-V educa- tion. Although the club formally meets about three times a year the students in the A-V are daily to the service of the faculty in the opera- tion of equipment and in the sched- uling of video media. Sachem Scoop The Sachem Scoop newspaper includes not only newsworthy items but also fames and literary works contributed y all the students in the school. Student Council The Student Council is a group of students who were elected by their fellow classmates. The Council works to establish social functions and to better teacher-student re- lations. The adviser is Mr. Calef who, along with Mr. Serino and the class advisers meets regularly with the Student Council to formulate Student affairs. Photography Club The purpose of the photography club is to foster interest in the art of photography and to give students a chance to take, develop, and enlarge their own pictures. Junior Honor Society The members of the National Junior Hon- or Society have been busy throughout the year in many service projects. Most familiar is the recitation of the Opening exercises each morning.
