In addition to acquiring an education, you have developed friendships with teachers and students and I hope that these have contributed to your education. I also hope that these friendships will endure and that your association with Saugus High School has re- sulted in pleasant memories. As you go on to use your education in a job or in college, I be- lieve that you will have many occasions to recall your high school days. I hope that you will remember the good things and that your education here will prove to have been a rewarding as well as suc- cessful experience. Please accept my best wishes for success and happiness in the fu- ture. Very truly yours, Robert J. Fraser Principal To the Class of 1971: I have a special interest in the class of 1971 because you were sopho- mores when I became Principal of the high school, and therefore the first class to have been in the school during my term as Principal. I want to congratulate you on your graduation and hope sincerely that we have given you something that has prepared you for your fu- ture in these difficult times. Today it is necessary to have more than the standard high school education to cope with the dilemma and confron- tations of the time. You must be eguipped to make decisions and judgements beyond the ordinary everyday problems of life. Whether you go to work or go on to further education, you will be called upon to defend your beliefs and you must have the courage and good judge- ment to do this in a manner which should preclude the violent conse- quences which are taking place amongst some groups in our society. Do not be caught up in the contradictions of the day which seemingly are asking for a peaceful society and attempting to acquire peace through violent actions. There are times when you feel that the system is not the most ex- pedient means to this end but the system has created our many free- doms which we in the United States are able to enjoy today. I would like to think that Saugus High School has produced thinking people who can stand up to these situations in a rational manner. I wish you only the best in whatever your future might be. I know that you will be a credit to Saugus High School in the years to come. 5 Robert Clark ice Principal Office Personnel John Leahy Vice Principal Gertrude Arnold Edith Arvidson Lucille DesLoges Mary Williams Barbara Boland English Carol Boucher Foreign Language Terry Buckner Business John Burns English Coordinator 3 I Donna Burton English Richard Cardillo Business Beverly Carlson Librarian Joan Carlton Foreign Language Frank Carter Business Coordinator Edward Chamberlain Science Clare Connolly Social Studies and English Carmelina D ' Alleva Mathematics La wrence D ' Angelo Social Studies Anthony DeMatteo Science Coordinator Lee Fich Andora Fuller James Gavin Diane Giovino Foreign Language Homemaking Industrial Arts Physical Education Kenneth Goldsmith English John Guthmann English Leslie Goodman English Bernis Hanlon English W Marilyn Goodman Foreign Language Robert Hayes Social Studies I jp Valerie Green Business I Esther Howe Homemaking Coordinator Bernard Hussey Social Studies Jacqueline Jacobs Guidance Barbara Jones English Angelina Kalevretinos Mathematics 1 1 Jerome Mitchell Music Supervisor Carmine Moschella Industrial Arts Coordinator 1 Elaine Murphy Mathematics Harold Musgrave Social Studies Thomas Pantages Lucille Perry Abraham Pinciss Anthony Poto Science Mathematics Business Foreign Language 13 Milton Kimmei Music Robert Romano Data Processing Kath erine Spencer Nurse Stella Jarzylo Matron George McKay Mathematics Saugus High School — 1949-1970 Hazel C.
