CLARK, VICE PRINCIPAL Telephone 233-4000 To the Members of the Class of 1968: For you it is graduation time. Understandably, you are happy to have attained this goal, and you look forward to entering a more adult world. Yet I realize that many of you face the future with considerable anxiety. You have some concern about what lies ahead for you personally, whether it be college in the fall or the employment for which you have been training. More than that, you are apprehensive about the grave domestic and international problems that beset our country. One cannot blame you for having misgivings about the future. There is every indication that the coming decades will be strangely new, rapid- ly moving, revolutionary. It seems likely that mankind will find it necessary to meet one unpredictable challenge after another. But in facing up to the smaller crises of high school, you have readied yourselves to meet the larger crises of another day. Albert Einstein once said, Education is that which remains after you have forgotten everything you learned at school. I am sure that this great genius was not down grading formal schooling. Rather he was calling attention to the truth that inert facts, pieces of information, that you have learned here will in time be forgotten, while the attitudes, aspirations, and ideals cultivated here will remain with you and grow, for better or worse, throughout your life. I am confident that your studies at Saugus High School have pre- pared you for your careers in the immediate future, and I feverently hope and trust that that which remains after you have forgotten everything learned at school will fortify and equip you for living in the new, excit- ing, and fast-changing world of tomorrow.
