DAVIS. PRINCIPAL LEON C YOUNG. VICE PRINCIPAL JOHN B. LEAHY. VICE PRINCIPAL SAUGUS HIGH SCHOOL SAUGUS. MASSACHUSETTS 01906 Telephone 233-4000 To the Members of the Class of 1965: You are well aware, I am sure, of the whirlwind advances now taking place in science and technology. It is indeed an exciting, yet sobering fact that innumerable great scientific discoveries and developments have occurred within the short span of your pre-adult life. Your birth preceded that of the space age. Within your lifetime man-made satellites have begun to circle the earth and orbit the sun. Supersonic travel has become common and space flight a reality. During this period of time at least eleven additional chemical elements have been discovered, and it has been estimated that half of the chemicals in commercial use today were unrecognized before you were born. Within your span of years hundreds of peacetime uses of atomic energy have been developed. Inventors have built computors capable of solving in an hour problems that would have previously taken scores of men centuries to solve. The accelerating pace of future discoveries and inventions appears to be incomprehensible. It is clear only that society is becoming much more complex; and all of your energies, abilities, and talents will be needed to meet the enorm- ous challenge of tomorrow. To understand this new environment, it will be necessary for you to. continue to learn long after your years of schooling are over. I would remind you, however, that in this changing world some things are unchangeable. The need for idealism is eternal; and such virtues as honesty, courage, kindness, and service to fellow men must never disappear. It is my belief and trust that you have been given a strong foundation on which to build in the future, and I have confidence in you as a class. My very best wishes to each of you as you enter the ranks of the alumni of Saugus High School. Most sincerely, Cy tufyis 7T X a -c y Principal 3MOH- JOOH03 HOIH 8UOUA8 808tO 8TT3 e U HD Aee A m .auouAe JAIionwl 8IVAO .■=« HOTH8A Ja iomibH ' : Y .3 H03J J 1l3Hlrt J-3IV .YHA3J .8 MHOl :5d9I arfl lo eTedmaM d3 oT , sit e itib I «a WB Hew 9ie c oY .YSoIonrioad bnfi sonsios ni 906lq %niil t Sbsi-% 9ldB nunn : d rii crosl gni:i9GOc; i9v, t gaiJxox9 ns bgabnx tj iiods 9ri nxrttxw baiiuooo 9VBri a .Jn 9mqo la vab bne a9XT9voosxf tri9X03 .ggfi 9DBqe 9rfJ- lo bi. 3 D9iq ddnxd ii oY .9121 iItrbB-9nq iuo lo nsqa riJ-769 9ri,t s - sri 29 1119 68 gbB n-nBm 9m iuox filriJ dxigxll 9osq3 bo« nommoo 9moo9d asrf l9V£iJ- oxnoeTaqt S .nc 3 9rfi .txdio bnB iBOxnrrado IfinoxJx bB n9vsl9 2B9l J-£ emit lo boiaaq axrf.t gniiiKI ,vJ-xIb9t b ' lo IIbh J-fiilJ - b9 p.mio one t b9 f9voo3xb n99d av d 3in9mal9 .mod 9i9w irov, aiolad be 3-rnu 9i9w -fibotf 831 iBio-rgmmoo nx alBOxmgrfo ssri T£3 iari9 oxmojs lo asau gmx.J90B9q lo ebgibm ri btbsv ' lo hbos ix ov, nxriJiW ob nx nxvlos ' eio d i qfno o ctlxiLrd 9vsri sio ngvnl ,beqol9V9b n99d oi zstiu3ci90 nam lo 89ioo3 ne-A S Leuc iv9iq 9VBri blcow £,rt$ amaldoiq it ori . 9Vlo 3 snsgqqB inox ievni bns 39i 9voosrb siuJul lo aosq §ni ifii9l900B sdT . gldianaridnqmoonx 9d of Ilf ;x9lqiroo 9iom dor m nxmoo9d e! v,t9X003 Jfiri vino iB9lo sx SI -nriona srid team oj babasn 9d IIxw e ngls.} forte t j i9n9 ' ixtoy lo ad IIxw .jx t d-n9mnoiJ:vn9 wgn etiit bn£,J3i9bnu oT ,wo reomoi lo 9§n9llBfio 3uo nxloorioa lo aisay, txjov. Lowest creature hold high the pole Signifying freshman days — New annex wing, all-purpose room, Accelerated science course, Full day of school and staggered lunch, Science fair postponed by fire, Foreign language and first book fairs, And avoidance of senior stares ! Well speaks the next haughty keeper Of some cherished sophomore times. Underclassmen, but one year older, We greeted Mr. Davis and Bid farewell to Mr. Porter. With two-platoon we once again Adjusted to shifting classes, Corridors of teeming masses. Rising proud above these two, the Guardian of the junior past Recalls a nation ' s grief and days Marred by burdens from the fires, Yet lightened by our winter sports And junior prom, Bali-Hai, Donkey basketball, added shares In assemblies and school affairs. Giant of these mighty figures Boasts the height of senior life — The final rallies and Color Day, Triumphant victories in sports, College Boards and applications, The Miracle Worker, Washington, Senior Week with its laughter, tears As graduation closed these years. Mighty Totem, your tale at last Becomes the glory of the past. 20 ,. O marching ever onward, We shall forever see How great the lesson we have learned, How firm that loyalty That bids us raise a cheer today O Saugus High for thee ! Your walls are made of brick and stone Perhaps, in time will fall, But lasting friendships formed within Shall tower over all, Shall ever be a monument To trust and brotherhood, Shall stand forever for the right Forever for the good. Most of all, we thank Miss Helen F. Towle and Miss Hazel C. Marison for their advice, kindness, under- standing, and patience. This book holds for us the memory of a wonder- ful experience, an experience that all these people made possible, and for this reason we sincerely say thank you. 174 Autographs 175 ■ ■ 3 Autographs 176 TAYLOR P UBLISHING COMPANY IK.
