asquerade In Vienna Presented as operetta The annual operetta, Masquerade In Viennaf, was a delightful comedy very favorably accepted by Saugerties High School audiences. The plot of the operetta centers around the hope of Dr. Falke to revenge a most distasteful trick his good friend, Mr. Stein, has played on him. In order to punish Mr. Stein properly, Dr. Falke goes to a great deal of trouble arranging an eventful evening at the home of the fabulous Prince Orlofsky, who is that very night giving a magnificent masquerade ball. Mr. Stein has, in the meantime, been sentenced to three days in jail because his inefficient lawyer cannot save him from this terrible fate. Dr. F alke, however, does not let this interfere with his plans for the evening. He manages to have Mr. Steinis sentence begin the following day rather than that night. Then he persuades Mr. Stein to attend the masquerade ball with him, but he's not to tell his wife for she surely would not allow him to go because of all the beautiful ladies who would be in attendance. The flirtatious Mr. Stein agrees. As he is dressing for the ball, Dr. Falke explains his plan to Madam Stein and incorporates her help for she is anxious to teach her husband a lesson for his flirting ways. XVhen Dr. Falke and Mr. Stein arrive for the ball, they find a delightful atmosphere of beautiful ladies, music, and dancing. Mr. Stein immediately turns his charm on a mysterious masked Countess. He spends the evening telling her of her beauty, swearing to her that he is not married. Eventually comes the hour Dr. Falke has been waiting for. Mr. Stein is faced by his wife as the masked coun- tess and his old friend, Frank, the jailer. Amidst laughter and merrymaking he is taken off to jail.
