Offensive Coach lerry Bagierek. Shazam! I've been telling you for the past 2 years that the football team would put it all together. Well, they finally did it. They used a combina- tion of stingy, hard-hitting defense and an overpowering offense to put togeth- er a 7-2 season record, a league champ- ionship. They were represented by 7 players on the All-League squad, and 4 on the All-Area squad. With only 5 players graduating, and the entire of- fensive backfield returning, you can see why we have our sights set on Pon- tiac Stadium and the Class D Champ- ionship for next year. 58 LAM PEN COACH OF THE YEAR SHS ALL AREA! e ? ft ,__ m Jp i MOIMS IPM SHS ALL LEAGUERS! The team would like to pay tribute to the two coaches for making them work hard to achieve the season they did. Next year they are looking forward to an even better season. As one player put it “This year the League, next year, the State!'’ 60 JV'S TOUGH AND SPIRITED The JV's had their first regular sea- son schedule this year. Their 2A record doesn't show their determination and hard work very well. They showed some spectacular potential for talent in only their first year, and should pro- duce some fine varsity material for the years to come. Wayne Fries did an ex- cellent job at the coaching spot also. The Rockets had a very fine season, and really gave us a show. There are some really fine kids in that group, and should prove profitable for SHS foot- ball in the future. Kneeling I to r Carl Erlewien, lohn Bossardet, Terry Pitcher. Robert Rank. Bob Engel. They were much better than their record in- dicated. Robin Schock, Cathy Bek- ken, Kim Marmeau, Eliza- beth Wilson, Barbara Fiske, Diann Bolles, Betsy Hopper, Vicki Schock IZi — D This year was a great year to be a cheerleader. Our football team had an overwhelming record and our basketball team show- ed us that they have a lot of spirit also. The memories of this year will always be with us. The overnight football game at McBain was, to say the least, the best game we've ever cheered at. We showed the school board and community that if given a chance we can give our school a good name. Now that this year of foot- ball and basketball are through we say good luck next year. 67 I V —Linda Powers, Vickie Mayer, Debbie Klemm, Kim Kittredge, Ian Veldhuis. Chris The SHS b-ball crew this year was represented by a lot of underclassmen. With only two Seniors on the club, they were a little inexperienced, which meant the differ- ence in the close ones they lost. Given one more year, the breaks should turn their way. Next year should be a profitable and exciting year for the Injuns. This year, well, it can be marked down in the getting experience column. 72 J.V.'S ... A TALENTED BUNCH The Junior Varsity team this year had a lot of growing talent. They had quickness, rebounding, and some good style shooters. Many improved vastly just over the short season. Many players will be stealing balls and shooting baskets for Varsity next year. Their talent will be a big helpI Kneeling. L-R Dave Cngel, Mike Maczynskt, Bill Winters. The improvements that were seen in this squad were surprising; and cer- tainly welcome. But the season can be pretty long when you're just a Freshman trying to learn. The Junior High exhibited a lot of spirit and skills. They did very well over the course of the season. They al- so showed a lot of enthusiasm and in the future, we should be able to watch a superb bunch of kids. Right now they're learning, and learning fast!
