The 1964-65 Football Team displayed great promise as we went into battle the first game. All were in great shape, seeing that we had cheerfully volunteered to go out for track or baseball. The words that still ring in our ears are gut it out, you doggers. All in all it was a great season, having won our home- coming game and brilliantly defeated Gobles. • - - Saugatuck 0 Hopkins 18 Saugatuck 0 Lawton 8 Saugatuck 33 Martin 13 Saugatuck 7 Lawrence 12 Saugatuck 13 Gobles 0 Saugatuck 25 Fennville 62 Saugatuck 14 Bloomingdale 48 James Tiffany FOOTBALL MOST VALUABLE PLAYER 34 COACHES: Line Coach - Mr. Hanford. Let's see what has gone by since that unforgettable day. Many of the graduates have reached their goals and many have not, but we must say, they are all happy in their work. Take Kristine Simmons for instance, now a famous exotic bubble dancer on Maxwell Street, in Chicago. If it weren't for the success of Ron Jillson, Kris wouldn't have the fame she has today. After years of research Ron has finally invented a bubble chamber that makes bubbles! We have several people who have been traveling quite a bit. Sally Wieland made a tour around the United States as Miss America for 1969. For her talent, she showed how to sew a formal in one easy lesson. Everett Ihle also has won nationwide fame by being named Mr. Universe of 1970. Bud Naughtin has been traveling quite a bit since graduation. His basketball playing years at S.H.S. have helped him considerably. Bud has been manager of the Harlem Globetrotters for 7 years now. Another one of our travelers has been Beth Posting. She is now trying for her 8th consecutive year as defending Woman's Ping Pong Champion of the World. Bob Crawford has just returned from a safari in Africa. Down there he is known as the cowardly game hunter. Instead of a gun he catches the ani- mals with his camera. Another great game hunter is John Sewers. He’s still after members of the cat Family. Lions! Tigers! Leopards! and ??? Tim Wilson the last traveler is captain of the ocean liner, Queen Elizabeth. We also have many people who have achieved much prestige in the business world. Many of these people have advanced to high positions, others now own their own businesses. Bob Manthey now owns a whole chain of Texaco Gas Stations stretching from coast to coast. Cheryl Phillips has become head of the complaint department at Flints which we all know keeps her very busy. The new owner of the Marquee, Gunnel Gradin, has really made it into a popular swinging place. Then there’s Lynn Mayer, who is known as the queen of the pizza world. She is now co-owner of the largest pizza palace in the United States. Mrs. VanKoevering, former Home Economics teacher at S.H.S., just bought the Heinz Pickle Packing Company. It seems that her husband's pickle crop got out of hand. Bruce Simonson has been quite busy lately. His lay-away plan at the funeral home has brought in a lot of business. Roland Frank owner of U.S. 30 Dragstrip really packs in a crowd. Especially when Mary Schaeffer, the world's Woman champion dragster performs. Roland also has a new star. He now has Honda Races at his dragstrip, with the world’s champion Honda Racer, Mike Van Leeuwen. We have one more racer in our crowd, but he doesn't perform at the dragstrip. Larry Higgins does his racing in the water. He is the world's champion Hydroplane racer for the 5th year in a row. We can't forget John Stitt, who is now a top executive for the Maidenform Company. Boy, he must have had a lot of pull to get that job. One thing for sure, John still sees a familiar face at work. His very competent secretary is Nancy Drapak. Judy Coates, whom we all knew would go far in politics, has gone farther than we expected. Her new home is Buckingham Palace as the wife of Prince Charles. Donita Berry went to college as planned but she didn't get a Bachelors degree. In fact, she got just the opposite - a Mrs. degree. You see she met a forest ranger. Now they've got seven little forest fires. 66 Still serving in the Army is Kevin Van Dine, who is first sax player in the Army Band directed by General Charles Liebbe. In every class, it seems that there are those who become world-known in movies, television, or radio. Nancy Lechler. almost had top billing with Carol Burnett, but she'll never make it, seems she can't get her mouth open wide enough. Sharon Harrington, with her great dancing talent, has become a choreographer for Shindig. John Marone now holds top honors as best disc jockey for W.L.S. Another T.V. personality is Wayne Schaeffer, who is the new host of Michigan Outdoors. Those that have be- come known in the magazine field are Sondy Smith, who is a top fashion model for Vogue, and Grant Crawford who is the new art editor for Playboy magazine. And we can't forget Larry Durham who still walks around in his derby hat and cane, wallowing in his success as Clarence Day Sr. after all these years, even though his new job is the city street cleaner. Cecilia Delke is now living in California in a mansion. The secret of her success is Community Property. Another business woman of the world is Alysoun York who is now working for the Miss Clairol Company, seems they use her hair to test new colors! As one might expect, David Kelly has been very successful. He is now the proud owner of the big- gest Irish Potato Plantation in the United States. We always knew Jim Atman had big plans but we never knew he would become a famous heart surgeon at Michael Reese Hospital in Chicago. One that went into the teaching profession is lovce Stark who is the current principal of S. H. S. She has just suspended David Swaffer for playing hookey, a game she never learned to play. Another teacher is Sandy Popielewski who is a Home Economics teacher at Yale. She still sees a lot of Mr. Domitrz, who is an accomplished Cherry Pie Taster. Susie Gorz has just taken over Mr. Domitrz's place as History teacher at S. H.S. It seems he is too fat to sit behind his desk anymore.
