Courses give balance Intermediate students at SAIS-R receive a balance between the core-curriculum courses needed to progress in any area and co-curriculum courses to stimulate their other interests. Language arts, including creative writing, English, and spelling, is part of the core curriculum. Other components are math, natural science, reading, and social science. Music — more than a class Besides giving students a chance to explore their interest in music, the intermediate music program provides many performing opportunities. Approximately 200 fourth, fifth, and sixth graders are involved in choirs that meet during recess. Those with instrumental interests can participate in fifth and sixth grade bands. The December 5 Winter Concert featured all groups. Fifth graders performed Amahl and the Might Visitors for all fifth grade classes. Robin Hood, a sixth grade production, was given January 21. Concert Band played in a Meet the Band” assembly for intermediate and primary schools on March 6. The Spring Concert and Fine Arts Fair involved all groups. Mrs. Darnauer (top left) passes out tambourines during rehearsal. Fourth graders In Mrs. Damauer's room (above) seem to be enjoying themselves.
