h d d s f m- r The Eorly Childhood Education, (E.C.E.) Program is designed ro introduce young children Into the educotionol world. It is divided into pre-school with opproximotely 120 students ond kindergorren with just over 200 enrolled. There ore 36 nationalities represented in the E.C.E. student body. To be accepted in the pre-school program a child must turn four by November 1st and 5 by the some dare for kindergarten. Children ore introduced to the bosics of reoding, moth, social studies, music ond art. They hove their own library, activity room, mini-discovery room ond play area. There is a speciol E.S.L. progrom set up for those students nor fomilior with English. Almost 50% of all E.C.E. children ore involved.

 The SAIS-R Elementary School hos grown this year by leops ond bounds. There were 1.106 students enrolled by October ond another 300 registered between then ond December. Mr. Donald Shoemoker ond Mr. Scott Chambers were added to the administrative stoff os osslsront principals, teaming up with Dr. C. Lonce Curlin. principol. Two progroms added o new dimension to the elementary curriculum this year. One wos the sustoined silent reading period during which students read anything they wonted for fifteen minutes. The emphosis wos on reoding for enjoyment. And Arabic classes were expanded to include grades one through five. Because of the rapid growth of the elementary school, the number of sections of each grade increosed from nine to twelve.
