DEEP IN DECEMBER The sky was blacker than black, An unequalled pearleseenee. A million stars screaming their brilliance On a flawless black velvet tapestry. The wood, a mass of stoic sleuths, Softly entreating us to stay. Silcn tly refusing-we couldnit stray From our appointment with the lake. We found, while quietly walking, The fishermanis tiny docking, Surely meant purely lor us This evening. Who else? The wind, grown suddenly firmer, Danced merrily on the water. The frosty December breeze Playing tag with the liquid soon to freeze. ln each others arms we sat, Warmly in our blanket wrapped. Falsely longing lor thc return Of he who never was. Exchanging ligllt-hearted jests, Laughing, singing, teasing. Whispering shielded secrets, llaving, holding, wanting. Sharing warm, buttery kisses, Silent gazes, deepest wishes. Serenly dozing, head on shoulder, Alone together, love forever, With white crowns atop our heads, We rose with the fresh moming light To greet the radiant white sight To commune with the newborn day.
