148 Footprints in the Sand She sal alone in the darkness, hiding from the storm The wind blew hard across the beach, the air was heavy and warm. When I saw her I knew I had known her, Someplace long, long ago. As I neared, she tumed her head away, it appeared she didnit know. Then I saw the silver glint, ol' metal in the night. She shuddered as the needle pierced her skin her face, a sickening white. I walked to her past the lonely pier, and looked into her eyes. She looked at me lrom another world, she just didnit realize. I was the one who started it, so very long ago. We got stoned together at a party, in my home. Silently I watched as she tumed, and slowly walked away. I Saw the trail her footsteps left, and began to die that day. For they could lead to nowhere, YetI had shown the way. The pier loomed high above, casting shadows on the beach. Gulls floated softly in the light of a moon just barely out of reach. The killer twice walked slowly, With lVIother Nature glowing in his hand The shining ocean swiftly washed away, their footprints from the sand. J oe Cocchiarella And now youire gone, as though you were never here, and my loneliness, shadow now appears. i shall wait till you are yet gone, and then cry over some silly song. and turn i will, as my memories last, to close the door of my jar of glass. kacey
