Outstanding Season For Debaters Seated: Becky Miller, Cynthia Taton, Lenise Pence, standing: Darin Haegert, Kevin Connor, Marilyn Clawson, Brad Kendall, and Coach Larry Laas. 1. Win a first place trophy. 2. Win a novice trophy. 3. Win four trophies altogether. 4. Win first in league. 5. Win first at Regionals. 6. Place in the top five at the State tournament. These were the goals established by the debate squad at the beginning of the season. Did they achieve them? Yes, every one, and then some? It was an outstanding year for the small squad of seven students. They collected a total of nine tro- phies including four first place finishes. Not only did they win the Hi-Plains League Championship, but they also won the Regional Championship as well. Once again, Satanta was the only 1A school in the state to qualify for the State Debate finals. However this did not scare the young squad as they battled the other 2A schools and finishes fifth place. Our congratulations to the debaters and Mr. Laas for their successful season. Photography Class Joins Annual Staff Hard work is often rewarded. In the case of photography class, they deserve a very special thanks. Most people don't realize that two people and an advisor put out this annual. The photography class joined us this year to help relieve the burden. All of the pictures in this annual were taken by Mr. McGowan and his photography class, with the exception of some senior pictures and the class portrait shots. We could have never finished this annual without all of their hard work and coopera- tion . Thank you for all of your time and effort. The annual staff was from L to R: Seated; Wanda Keener, Becky Miller. Standing; Mr. McGowan, Debra Ungles, Kathy Rollins, Aaron Sprunger, Mark McDonald, and Mrs. McGowan. Working on the yearbook has been quite an experience for me. When Mrs. McGowan asked if I'd like to be a co-editor, I said sure why not. I had no idea the work that went with such a high honor. Then when we started on it, I thought, ' 'What did I get myself into? '' Now, I wouldn't trade it for anything. Sure it got to be a big hassle and I wanted to wash my hands of the whole thing, but it has shown me responsibility. Wanda and Mrs. McGowan have been great to work with, and so has the rest of the photography class. All in all it has been a great year and lots of fun. Becky Miller, co-editor, 1977-78. Being a senior, this year as co-editor has meant a lot to me. I was very honored to be involved in the production of this annual. Although it's a lot of hard work, I wouldn't trade my experiences this year for anything. There are so many people I want to thank. All of the faculty for letting me out of classes, so I could work and meet deadlines. The photography class, for all of the help that they gave me. It takes a lot of determination to get good photos to go in a yearbook. Mrs. Mary McGowan for all of her under- standing and help this year. She was always there any- time I had some trouble, with the answer. Becky Miller for helping me put out this yearbook, it was a long hard year. And finally you students at S. H. S., you were the material that put this book altogether! Thank you! Wanda Keener, co-editor, 1977-78. 17
