It is fitting tribute that this year's volleyball squad was led by 3 fine seniors. Behind the fine examples of these girls, others have begun to discover their capabilities and use them. This year's Junior Varsity squad has also shown potential and great promise of doing well in next year's competition. 10

This year's varsity volleyball lineup was, From L. To R.: Front Row, Ruth Tatro and Ardith Rooney. Second Row, Chris Correll, Elsie Limon, and Billie Miller. Back, Billie Helton. The girls volleyball team ended its season at region- al play at Winona. While many girls felt their sea- son could have gone farther, they still felt they had a successful season. The team entered two tourna- ments, an invitational at Hugoton, and the regional tournament held at Winona. The girls beat Liberal in first round play at Hugoton, and also defeated South Western Heights and Elkhart to take 4th place honors. The girls finished their season with a 3rd place ranking at regionals. Lettermen for this year were: Ardith Rooney, Chris Correll, Billie Helton, Billie Miller, Elsie Limon, Ruth Tatro, and Terrie Limon. The freshmen volleyball group boasted six members. They were: 22 -- Blanchie Limon, 40 -- Susan Simpson, 11 -- Becky Miller, 24 -- Sheri Claar, 23 -- Darlene Brown, 30 -- Kathy Rollins, not pictured, 33 -- Diane Dennis. 9

Alexander, D. Hammerschmidt, D. DuBois, S. Hayden, V. Anthony, Assist. Coach Meehan. It was a year of anxiety, tension, and rewards. This year's varsity pro- gram combined all the aspects that make it all worthwhile. The squad worked as a unit and brought out the best in each of the players. The de- feats that did come were in hard fought battles and margin was never larger than nine. (Only once against league champ Syracuse.) Statistically, Satanta averaged 59.4 points with Sr. Dale Hammerschmidt leading Indian Scorers with 587 and a 25. 5 aver- age. The Indians held their opponents to a 55.9 average and outscored them 1304 to 1169.
