The 1974 Chieftain Yearbook was published by the Typing II Class of Satanta High School, Satanta, Kansas. In all school years there are good things which happen and such things which should be forgotten. We the Chieftain editors, have tried to show the medium of all the events of the year and hope we have succeeded. Before we open this yearbook, we would like to give special recognition to Charles Moore and James Correll for providing us with their tremendous photo- graphy, which made up about 75% of this annual. Credit is also due to Ronnie Rangel for his artwork. We hope this book will help you remember the year that was and though you are only one of many, one can do a lot. Diane Stice, Editor Shannon Lucas, Editor Mrs. Edith Stokes, Advisor Best All Around Diane Stige and Sig Doris Diane Stice and Sig Doris were selected as Best All Around students. They were selected by the student body on basis of personality. Best All Around are seniors who are selected by the student body DEDICATED TO THE SENIORS OF 1974 This is the year that we graduate. No more getting to class either absent or late. No more joking nor laughing, nor running down halls, putting down others, and taking our falls. This is the year that we graduate. No more picking up meals on the cold lunchroom plates. No more eating our meals with friends whom we've known, from the times back in school when they were the smallest of gnomes. Tins is the year that we graduate. From the teachers we know and the ones that we hate. But these feelings will pass and disappear unto dust, and the only ones left will be known only to us. This is the year that we graduate. EK Mm We'll enter the world with its problems so great. We've been trained in our classes, Them, to handle with care. But did we pay attention the time we were there? This is the year that we graduate. wTV 7 f The knowledge we've gained will now terminate. Out of the surround in gs ligent care, k and into a world with an unfriendly air. This is the year that we graduate. Our space, it grows short, And the time does grov; late. The teachings are over, and so is the pain. Ano now it's plain sense 1 that we will remain, to conquer the world in our own special way. StuCo started off the year with a car wash. One of the best money making projects was to make carameled apples on Thursday nights and sell them at football games on Friday. The week of Homecoming StuCo sponsored different dress days to get everyone built up for Homecoming. For Homecoming StuCo voted on having a dance this year. They held it in the gym on the Saturday night following homecoming, Freedom Express was the band. StuCo also sold shirts, jersey's and jackets. For another money making project they sold three dimensional Indian figured plaques. At the end of the year StuCo had a picnic and an- other car wash. s t u d e n t C 0 u n c • 1 i 37 Sponsor Dana Wood President Jan Jantzen Kayettes FRONT ROW: A. Lee, A. Saito, D. Eaton, S. Through our efforts We won our Homecoming game; We passed through basketball season; We made it to the KMEA Convention; We made it to State Debate; And we survived through that final test. Now the year has ended. We can look back and call fourth all the memories of the year we spent together. We have said goodbye, forever, to many old friends, and a momentary goodbye to those we will see again someday. The work is over and the end has finally come. We wish you that which we seek for ourselves; Peace, Understanding, and most of all,. Happiness in the years to come. Diane Stice Shannon Lucas
