She is also treasurer of the Sen- ior Class and is active in Band and Vocal Music. PATTY CULLISON: BELOW: Patty, this year's Sophomore candidate is also active in SHS activities. She is one of the varsity cheerleaders, and belongs to Pep Club, Kayet- tes, and various Vocal Music groups. BLENNA AUGEROT: ABOVE: Blenna, the Junior candidate is also active in Satanta High School activities. She belongs to both Pep Club and Kayette organizations. He received his degree from Southwestern State College at Weatherford, Oklahoma. His graduate work was also done at Southwestern State. Before coming to Satanta, 3 years ago, Mr. Baker taught in Clayton, New Mex- ico. This year, Mr. Baker is one of the Freshman class sponsors. He and his wife Joan have two children; Judy and Gary. Mr. Baker enjoys reading, experimenting, and camping. CENTER: MR. DON BARR: Mr. Barr, now in his second year here at Satanta, came from Cimarron. His is now teaching Auto Mech- anics and is one of the Sophomore Class sponsors. He and his wife Laurita have four children; Donnie Jr. , Candice, Melody, and Tammi. BOTTOM LEFT: MR. REMEL BLUNDELL: This year, Mr. Blundell teaches both Grade and High School Phys. -ed. In addition to this he also teaches Health. He and his wife Electa have five children; Kay, Betty, Max, JoAnne, and Barbara. BOTTOM RIGHT: MR. IRA BROMLOW: This is Mr. Bromlow's fifth year teaching at Satanta. He teaches Geometry, Algebra I and II, and Advanced Math Analysis. Mr. Bromlow received his B. S. in Math from Panhandle A. M. at Goodwell, Oklahoma. He also is the sponsor of our Student Council. Being a bachelor, Mr. Brom- low enjoys bowling, hunting, and fishing. TOP LEFT: MRS. DANA HADDICAN: Mrs. Haddican attended col- lege at Oklahoma College of Liberal Arts in Chickasha, Oklahoma, where she received a B. A. in English. She did graduate work at the University of Oklahoma, and Fort Hays State College. She now teaches English II, IV and sponsors the Pep Club. This is Mrs. Had- dican’s eighteenth year at Satanta High. She and her husband, William, have two children, Mary Pat, a freshman at Atchison, and Ramey, a Junior. Mrs. Haddican enjoys reading, knitting, sewing, and watching basketball and baseball games. TOP RIGHT: MR. EDWARD GUSTAFSON: Mr. Gustafson graduated from Fort Hays State College and has done graduate work at Fort Hays, K-State, andK.U. He has previously taught in Phillipsburg, and Lyons, Kansas. At S.H.S. , he teaches English I and III, and Advanced Writing. His other duties include; Head Football, Ass- istant Basketball, and Head Track coach. He and his wife Denise have six children, Evan, Audrey, Amanda, Amy, April, and Ann. Mr. Gustafson enjoys archery, Hunting, and fishing. CENTER: MR. DALE KELLINC: Mr. Kelling received his B.S. in Secondary Education and Physical Education at Phillips University. He has had 8 years teaching experience at Reamsville, Downs, Hunter, Russell Springs, and Rexford, Kansas prior to teaching here. In his first year here, he teaches Current Affairs, Govern- ment, Psychology, and Sociology. His other activities include Jr. Class sponsor, Assistant Football Coach, and Freshman Basketball Coach. Mr. Kelling and his wife, Velma, have 6 children; Rod- ney, 8; Dianna, 7; Tobin, 6; Michelle, 5; John (Greg), 2; and Michael, 4 months. BOTTOM RIGHT: MR. HERSHEL LAWSON: Mr. Lawson has done graduate work at various colleges after receiving his A. B. from Panhandle AGM at Goodwell, Oklahoma. This is his fifth year at Satanta where he teaches Speech and Debate. He is also the Freshman sponsor and the director of the All-school Play. He and his wife Janet have one son, John. Mr. Lawson enjoys bowling, hunting, and viewing athletic events. 9 TOP LEFT: MR. SAM LEDESMA: Mr. Ledesma, a bachelor, re- ceived his BA in Spanish from Northwestern State in Alva. Before coming to Satanta to teach, Mr. Ledesma taught in Syracuse, Cimarron, Rolla and Liberal. Here at SHS he teaches Spanish in grades 4,5. and 6, and first year Spanish in High School. He is also one of the Senior Class sponsors. Mr. Ledesma enjoys read- ing and fishing. CENTER: MRS. ELIZABETH McCOOL: Mrs. McCool is our school Librarian this year. She graduated from Bethel College at North Newton, Kansas where she received her B. A. degree. Her grad- uate work was done at Kansas State University, Wichita State University, Emporia State University, and at the University of Colorado. Mrs. McCool and her husband, Frank, moved to Satanta from Pratt, Kansas. She enjoys collecting rocks and cookbooks, and she also enjoys traveling. BOTTOM LEFT: MR. P. G. McGUIRE: Mr. McGuire received his AB degree in Social Science from Northwestern State College at Alva, Oklahoma, He has done graduate work at Fort Hays State. This year Mr. McGuire is kept busy teaching Driver's Ed. , Amercian History, being our basketball coach, and one of the Junior Class sponsors. He and his wife, Oringa, who works in the school lunchroom, have three children, Nick, Pat, and Brenda. Mr. McGuire enjoys eating, drinking coffee, and ath- letics in any form. BOTTOM RIGHT: MR. DALE MOODY: Mr. Moody has his MA degree in psychology and guidance from Colorado State Uni- versity and his BS in natural science from Northwestern State in Alva. He has also done graduate work in Fort Hays. This year Mr. Moody teaches Biology and is the Councelor and Principal of SHS. This is Mr. Moody's fifth year at Satanta. He and his wife, Judy, have two sons Chad and Todd. Mr. Moody enjoys hunting and fishing. TOP LEFT: MRS. RUBY NILES: This is Mrs. Niles second year tea- ching in Satanta. She teaches Home Ec. I-IV, and sponsors Kay- ettes. She received her college education at Southwestern State, Oklahoma State, and Penhandle ASM, all in Oklahoma. Mrs. Niles and her husband Carl have 4 children and a foster son. She enjoys reading, sewing, and working with young people. TOP RIGHT: MRS. EDITH STOKES: Mrs. Stokes, has been teaching here at Satanta for 19 years. She teaches Typing I and II, Short- hand, and Bookkeeping, She is the Sponsor of the Chieftain, Arrow- head and Pep Club. She and her husband, Oscar, have one daughter, Jennifer. Mrs. Stokes enjoys reading. CENTER: MR. JERRY STONE: Mr. Stone attended Wichita State where he received his BME in Music. This year he is a Sophomore Class Sponsor and both grade and high school band instructor. Be- fore moving to Satanta, Mr. Stone taught in Cimarron. He and his wife Jill have a son, Joey, and a daughter, Jennifer, Mr. Stone enjoys hunting, fishing, and a variety of other sports. BOTTOM RIGHT: MRS ALTA WHITESELL: For her third year, Mrs. Whitesell is Vocal Music Instructor. She also is one of the Senior Class Sponsors. Mrs. Whiteshell graduated from Southwestern Col- lege at Winfield, She has done graduate work at both Wichita State and K-State. Mrs. Whitesell and her husband Bob have four children; Judy, Peggy, Rob and John. She enjoys needlework and watching television. BOTTOM LEFT: MR. CARL WILSON: Mr. Wilson who is completing his fourth year at Satanta, received his B.S. in Industrial Arts from Northwestern State College at Alva, Oklahoma. He teaches Mechan- ical Drawing, General Shop, and Woodworking I and III, besides being Freshman Sponsor. He and his wife Carol have two daughters Kim and Stacey, Mr. Wilson enjoys hunting and trap-shooting. MRS. BELTZ This has been Mrs. Beltz's third year as secretary of Satanta High School. With a cheerful attitude, Mrs. Beltz has performed her duties of keeping books, typing letters and reports, along with various other duties. MRS. McGUIRE, MRS. BOWEN, and MRS. ROLLINS Mrs. Bowen and Mrs. McGuire are completing their second year here at Satanta High School, and Mrs. Rollins is com- pleting her first. They are responsible for the well planned and well balanced meals we have each day. MR. UNGER and MR. SHIELDS This is Mr. Unger's fifteenth year at Satanta High School, and Mr. Shields fourth year. These men do a fine job of caring for the school grounds. Kathy Wiese The week's activities were climaxed Friday, October 24 in a pre-game ceremony with the crowning of the 1969 Satanta High School Homecoming Queen. The candidates for Homecoming were Phoebe Shotton, Senior, escorted by Mike Hayden; Kathy Wiese, Junior, escorted by Dale Beltz; Becky Lahey, sophomore, escorted by Butch Alex- ander; andTowanna Dickerson, Freshman, escorted by Chuck Tatro. The ceremony got underway when the band marched onto the field before the game with Holcomb. All was quiet as the moment arrived, the crowd seethed with expectancy. Suddenly the loudspeaker announced, The 1969 Football Homecoming Queen is Kathy Wiese, the Junior candidate. John Whitesell, accompanied by the crownbearers; Kim Wilson and Brent Stalker, crowned the radiant Kathy and then bestowed the traditional kiss. Queen Kathy with her attendants held court over the game in which Satanta emerged victorious. The theme, Ten- der is the Night was carried out in the bands' pre-game and half-time show. Following the game, a dance was held in the Wigwam with the Universe Between providing the music. What's my Clorox bottle doing hanging clear up there??? Industrious Labor. Entertainment by the Junior Ensemble. Three Coins in a Fountain . The evening of April 25th marked the climax of a week of long-range planning and hard work. The effect was one of beauty and splendor enhanced by the pastels of springtime. The theme which was Three Coins In A Fountain will remain in the memories of all who attended, for many years to come. The introduction and welcome was given by the Junior Class President, John Kline. Kent Pendergraft, the Senior Class President, presented a response of appreciation. Mr. Brown, superintendent of schools, followed with a speech which was correlated with the theme, Three Coins In A Fountain. The entertainment for the evening was provided for by a Junior Ensemble, accompanied and directed by Mrs. Dorothea Piner. This year, as tradition has stated, the Juniors’ parents helped to make the banquet and prom a success. Following the banquet, the guests danced to music provided by the Street Mass from Wichita, Kansas. Junior fathers do their thing. An excellent meal. The audience was welcomed by the star of the production—Sherri Young--who played the part of Sylvia Barrett. The kids in the school ranged from the hostile to the very emotionally upset. The action during the entire play moved rapidly, punctuated by flash- backs in the memory of Miss Barrett. The play was not only enter- taining, it contained an important message.
