RICHARD BAKER: Physics, General Math, and Chemistry have been the classes taught by Mr. Baker during his second year of teaching at Satanta High School. He has also been a sponsor of the Junior class. CENTER LEFT: MR. REMEL BLUNDELL: Coaching, teach- ing, and sponsoring have kept Mr. Blundell busy throughout his second year at Satanta High School. Besides coaching football and track, he has taught classes in Health and Physical Education, and helped sponsor the Lettermen's Club. BOTTOM LEFT: MR. IRA BROMLOW: This has been Mr. Bromlow's third year of teaching math. Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, and Trigonometry are included in his teach- ing schedule. However, he also finds time to sponsor the Senior class. BOTTOM RIGHT: MRS. DANA HADDICAN: Mrs. Haddi- can has now completed her sixteenth year of teaching at Satanta High School. This past year she has been involved in teaching English II and English IV. She has also been a sponsor for both the Freshmen class and Pep Club. TOP LEFT: MR. HERSHEL LAWSON: Mr. Lawson has been a teacher at Satanta High School for three years. Even though his classes of Debate, English III, Speech I, Speech II, and Drama have kept him very busy, he still has found time to direct the Junior and the Senior plays. TOP RIGHT: MRS. RUTH MEAD: Mrs. Mead has devoted her first year of teaching at Satanta High to Home Eco- nomics classes. She has also been sponsor of Kayettes. CENTER RIGHT: MR. DALE MOODY: During his third year at Satanta High School, Mr. Moody has taught Biology and Freshmen Orientation. He has also been Student Council sponsor and guidance counselor. BOTTOM RIGHT: MRS. ELIZABETH McCOOL: Even though being Librarian is a full time job, Mrs. McCool finds time to teach English I. She has completed her first year of teaching in Satanta High School. 9 TOP RIGHT: MR. BRYAN McDOWELL: Mr. McDowell has been a teacher at Satanta High for two years. His classes include Spanish I and Spanish II. Mr. McDowell is also a sponsor of the Sophomore class. CENTER: MR. POWELL McGUIRE: Mr. McGuire's fourth year of teaching has been an active one. He has taught the classes of American History, American Government, and Driver's Education. Besides coaching baseball and basket- ball, Mr. McGuire sponsored Lettermen's Club. BOTTOM LEFT: MRS. EDITH STOKES: With classes in Bookkeeping, Typing I, Typing II, and Shorthand, Mrs. Stokes has completed her seventeenth year at Satanta. In- cluded in her busy schedule are the ARROWHEAD, the CHIEFTAIN, and the Sophomore class to sponsor. BOTTOM RIGHT: MR. JERRY STONE: Besides sponsoring the Senior class, Mr. Stone's first year at Satanta has also included teaching band classes at both the high school and the grade school. TOP LEFT: MR. ROBERT VATH: Mr. Vath's second year of teaching has included the classes of American Govern- ment, World History, Air Education, Sociology, and Psy- chology. He has also been active as Freshman class sponsor. TOP RIGHT: MRS. ALTA WHITESELL: During her first year of teaching, Mrs. Whitesell has had a very hectic schedule. Her classes included Mixed Chorus, Boy's Glee Club, Girl's Glee Club, and also a few vocal classes in grade school. She is also a Pep Club sponsor. CENTER RIGHT: MR. CARL WILSON: Mr. Wilson's second year of teaching has been a busy one. Besides sponsoring the Junior class, he has taught classes of Drafting, General Shop, Metal Work, and Industrial Arts I and II. 11 Mrs. Beltz This year was Mrs. Beltz's first year as secretary of Satanta High School. She displayed efficiency in her work of keeping books, typing letters and reports, and various other secretarial duties. p E R S O N N E L Mrs. Stutts and Mrs. Shepard Both Mrs. Stutts and Mrs. Shepard worked hard this year to plan and provide balanced meals for the students and faculty. This year completed Mrs. Stutts 10th year; Mrs. Shepard has completed 9 1 2 years. Mr. Unger and Mr. Shields Mr. Unger and Mr. Shields are the custodians at Satanta High School. Cleaning the building, watering and mowing the lawn, caring for the trees, shrubs, and other plants are all part of the job that they perform. Mr. Moody 34 STUCO AT The Student Council aids in the government of the student body. The classes and organizations elect repre- sentatives to the council, and in this way delegate it to act for them. The student council has been working hard all year toward the improvement of our school. The Student Council has helped boost school spirit by selling school penants. They were also active in pro- viding concessions during the football season. Also, the council was in charge of the Homecoming ceremony and dance. The Student Council has pride in its school. It has done much to keep the appearance of Satanta High School at its best. Student Council has developed many projects that reveal this pride. Locker inspections have been projects of the Student Council. It has devoted its time toward promoting patriotism by having classes say the flag salute. Student Council has been in charge of the majority of the assemblies that Satanta High School has had throughout the past years. Students Council has been a symbol of leadership in our school for many years. Although the Kayettes spent many hours working on these projects, they still found the time to promote their two main social events--Freshman Welcome Party and Kayette Installation. Once selected for membership, a student is singled out. He should not only continue to demonstrate those outstanding qualities which brought about his selection, but he should also exert a new influence to improve conditions about him and promote those qualities, Leadership, Character, Scholarship, and Service, for which the National Honor Society stands. To be considered as a candidate for membership the student must first carry a B grade point average. Then his name is submitted to the nomination committee by the school. These performances were entertaining for the crowd as well as educational for the band. Concert Band also put much work into preparations for contests and concerts. The entire play took place in court where Karen Andre was being tried for the murder of Bjorn Faulkner, her lover. A jury was chosen from the audience, and the decision of whether or not Karen Andre was guilty rested in their hands. After listening to the pleas of bo til the prosecuting attorney and the defense attorney the jury retired to make their decision. PULLING THE CURTAIN by TOM TAGGART On March 29, 1968, the senior class presented a satirical farce titled Pulling the Curtain. Leffie Jewel Hunderstine, President of the Pine Valley Ladies' Aid, has written a play which she had intended to be a delicate English drama. However problems arose with each rehearsal: Erie got a cold the night of the performance; Fonzy quit the leading role during the last rehearsal; Chief of Police Killian never did have time to learn his lines. Opening night finally arrived and the results were a com- bination of mass confusion and unbelievable hilarity. With Moonlight and Roses as their theme, the juniors presented a banquet and prom to be remem- bered by everyone who attended. Zo Ann Davis, junior class president, welcomed the guests. Ken Hale, senior class president, presented the response of appreciation. Mr. Brown then commented on the accomplishments of the school year and the success of school activities. The junior parents helped with the success of the banquet by preparing and serving the meal. Entertainment was furnished with a trumpet solo by Lee Mann, and a musical selection by the Mixed Ensemble. Their debate activities included tournaments at Garden City (October 21), Cimmaron (October 28), Hugoton (November 18), Ulysses (December 2), Liberal (December 9), Ellinwood (December 16), Southwestern Heights--District Tourna- ment (January 6), Greensburg--Regional Tournament (January 13). The debate teams placed second at the district tournament. Throughout the year die debate teams won 40 rounds and lost 37. Their dramatic activities included a one-act play entitled TO BURN A WITCH by James L. Bray. The play received a I rating at the league speech contest, and a II rating at the district speech contest. The selection for this award was based on non-academic services she rendered to the school. Zo Ann also held other honors this year. She was the junior class pres- ident, and she also represented Satanta as its Indian Princess. JOHN PHILIP SOUSA AWARD Charlene Correll was elected by the band mem- bers to receive the John Philip Sousa Band Award as the most outstanding senior band member. This is the first year that the Satanta High School Band has presented such an award. Charlene received a trophy and will also have her name engraved on a plaque that will be displayed in the band room. Her grade averages throughout four years of high school were the highest in her class. Charlene has been active in Pep Club, Kaycttes, Music, and other extracurricular activ- ities. Her plans for the future include attending Automation Machine Training Center in Kansas City, Missouri. She then hopes to develope a career in the programing of automated equipment. Crystal has also been active in extracurricular activ- ities and has been an outstanding student in her Home Eco- nomics class, where she received the Betty Crocker Home- maker of Tomorrow Award. They received this honor on the basis of their grade averages this past year. 75 SATANTA DRUG AlKwsft-n CLASS NIGHT May 16, the senior class of 1968 met at die Satanta Airport for a class reunion. The class pro- phecy, will, and history were presented. Following the senior portion of the program, awards were pre- sented to students in scholarship, music, speech, and sports. Others not included in tiiese departments were School Service Award to Zo Ann Davis, Lee Mann receiving an award for most improved band member, and Mr. Wesley Lucas receiving an award for out- standing school board member. COOKS: The lunchroom staff has been kept very busy with the planning and preparing of meals. Mrs. Har- low, head cook, has completed four years as cook at SGS; Mrs. Reed, eighteen years; Mrs. McGuire, three years; Mrs. Bussell, two years.
