The highlights of the year were: Parading for State Fair in Hutchinson, Kansas, the Santa Claus Christmas Parades at Dodge City, Kansas and Satanta, Guymon Pioneer Day in Guymon, Oklahoma, and for the Satanta Day, in Satanta. They paraded on the football field with unique shows, and pre- sented basketball floor shows. Participated in the League Instrumental clinic at Elkhart, Kansas. At the Garden City Relays the team placed 5th and the Mile Relay team set a new record of 3:45. 5. At the Syracuse Relays the mile relay team set a new record of 3:42.9. In the Satanta Relays our team placed 3rd in the meet, and set a new record of 3:45. 4. In the Anthony relays the mile relay team placed third. The team placed 2nd in a triangular meet with Plains and Kismet. We also won two duel triangular meets with schools from eastern Kansas. Ralph Austin hands off to Alfred Alexander at the Satanta Invitational Meet in the Medley Relay. Gary Davis hands off to Bobby Shepard at the Satanta Invita- tional Track Meet in the Mile Relay. ‘Pe'KMMaet Our hats off to Mr. Leonard Day and Mr. Calvin Hanson for the care they take of our buildings. Also to Mrs. Nile Unger and Mrs. Glenn Brasuell for being swell cooks. The Bearded Coach from the House of Satanta. 34 Our Valedictorian is Doris Mae Johnson, and our Salutatorian is Phyl- lis Taton. These girls have earned Scholarship letters all four years. Con- gratulations girls! Jim Miller and Letty Gay Birney received Scholarships this year. These students have perfect atten- dance: 3 years-Kenneth Pound, Phyllis Taton and Richard Merz. 2 years-Gary Taton and Marlene Swink. 1 year-Shir- ley Buffington, Kenneth Dougherty, Tommy Gales, Robert Decker, and Robert Page, and Polly Gales. Patsy Conover received the honor of being elected as a delegate to attend Girls State. Orlene Crone is her alter- nate. These girls are sponsored by the American Auxiliary. Jerry Brookshire and Gary Davis were the boys receiving the honor of being elected to attend Boys State. They are sponsored by the American Legion. These boys and girls were chosen on the basis of leadership, per- sonality, scholastic ability and moral standing. SfeeciaC i¥o t n4- Our One-Act Play Echo received a I rating at the League Festival in Sublette. The characters were Jim Robinson, Dorothy Osbon, Carol Whis- ler and Gary Davis. The director was Mrs. Dana Haddican and Miss Edith Lindley was the Assistant Director. We are proud of these who worked so hard to make this rating. These students were elected by their classmates as outstanding members of their class. Freshmen: Dixie Black, Danny Canfield Sophomores: Crystal Wright, Ernest Dougherty Juniors: Mary Terry, Gary Davis Seniors: Doris Mae Johnson, Bill Reed Jeanette McDonald and Donald Griffin, Juniors, were elected King and Queen at the 1954 Annual Senior Carnival. Phyllis Taton and Alfred Alexander received the honor of being elected by the student body as best All Around Stu- dents. They were selected with the following points in Mind: Personality, Scholastic Standing. Leadership and Character. Wanda Durham was elected Homecoming Queen and was crowned by basketball captain. Bill Reed. Jeannette McDonald was elected Queen at the Sweetheart Ball and selected Jim Miller as King.
