Other outstanding band activities included concerts and a High Plains League Clinic held at the Football games, gave basketball floor shows and participated in civic parades at Satanta and Liberal, Kansas, and Guymon, Oklahoma. Drum Major, Cecil McDonald, rated as best in the Southwest. They defeated Cimarron for the first time in history and fin- ished with third place in the Hi-Plains League. The teamwork was exceptional this year, scor- ing more points (159) than their combined op- ponents, never failing to score in any game. The Satanta Indians came from the bottom to 3rd place in the Hi-Plains League this year. Their record was 10 wins and 10 losses. What they lacked in height they made up for it in fight and spirit. The Indians finished the season in a blaze of glory by winning the District Championship for the second time in the history of the school. Sponsored by: T. M. DEAL LUMBER COMPANY-Satanta The Track Team enjoyed a most successful season. They took fourth at the Scott and Cimarron Relays. In the Satanta Relays the Indians finished third, setting a new record in the discus. They finished third in the Hi-Plains League Track Meet with sophomores making up the largest part of the team. CO-VALEDICTORIANS LaVesta Swink and Norma Sunderland were 1954 Co- Valedictorians. PERFECT ATTENDANCE Maxine Utt had perfect school attendance during her sophomore, junior, and senior years. STATE MUSICIANS Bob Moody, trombone; Sylvia Buffington, voice; and Russell Bowers, trom- bone; received ratings of I at the District Musical Festival. Russell received a I at State. Bob and Sylvia received ratings of II at State. HONORARY FOOTBALL PLAYERS Chosen for the All-League Honor- ary Football Teams were: Donald Wilhite, Harold Gordon, and Russell Bowers, first team; Byrl Smith, second team; Ronnie Lucas and Gary Schonlaw, honor- able mention. Although these four swell people whose faces we saw every day didn't receive any recognition for their work well done, they really do deserve honors. Our two fine cooks were Mrs. Nile Unger and Mrs. Glenn Brasuell. Mr. Leonard Day and Mr. Irvin Zimmerman were our janitors. ALL-SOUTHWEST 1st TEAM Russell Bowers, end, was named on the All-South- west Kansas foot- ball team. TRACK STAR Ronnie Lucas placed in all of the track meets in which Satanta par- ticipated including the Regional where he took first in discus and fourth in shot put, and State where he took fifth in discus.
