This year there was a feeling of pride and accomplishment in the members. The band was well respected wherever it went and received many enthusiastic comments from civilians and other bands alike. This year the band entered the field to the thrilling “Exaltation’'. “Casey Jones” came next featuring the very popular “Dixieland” group. The exit was a medley of “Meadowlands” and “How the West Was Won with a piccolo solo by Kathy Bowen and Shelia Minshew. The exit was later changed to “Hang ’Em High”, which brought two home crowds to their feet. In competition the band also succeeded. The band finished 3rd in the Cerebral Palsey Parade Competition in Gadsden. At the Midsouth Marching Band Festival in Gadsden the band, drum major, and color guard received excellent” ratings; the majorettes received a good rating. After three weeks of work to improve the show, the band representatives stood in pouring rain to hear the judges pronounce the drum major, majorettes, and color guard superior , and the band excellent” at the Lake Guntersville Marching Band Festival. After marching season, the band participated in the District Concert Band Festival and made plans for a spring trip.
