We would like to express our sincere appreciation to everyone involved in making this edition possible, and to show our gratitude to Mrs. Carolyn Morton for her time and effort in making this annual a success. SPONSOR: Mrs. Carolyn Morton EDITOR: Ronnie Nelson CO-EDITOR: Gary Tarvin BUSINESS MANAGER: Patsy Guest CLASSES: Kathy Bradley FEATURES: Lucretia Musick Cofield, Kathy Brewster SPORTS: Danny Berry PHOTOGRAPHER: Rice Carr 1 The senior class would like to dedicate the 1976 Sardo- nian in remembrance of three of our classmates who lost their lives during our ninth and tenth grade years. The members of our class have been saddened by the death of Rhonda Taylor, Boris Smith, and Marty Sta- pler. This year we are honoring a teacher who has been of real service to our senior class, and to the student body. During his six years at Sardis High School, he has shared our joys and our sorrows. And for the mighty lions, this season has certainly been one of joy. Coach Sims has led our team into the state playoffs after an undefeated reg- ular season. The Senior Class of 1976 proudly presents this spotlight to Coach Jerry Don Sims. 3 cAfot Q%jJi$u Patsy Guest, Stanley Hubbard ttinddust ly, Danny Fielder offetcyf (imKuvm Marie Gazaway, Steve Bayne Lorill Williams, Steve Bruce Tammy Jones, Toney Gregory Debbie Wright, Autry Burns Connie Greer, Rodney Gunnels Becky Talton Larry Hill Debra Mosley, Phillip Kilpatrick cMjit ! You have rendered service in your school and community. You have lit many candles which in later years will be shining back to cheer you. The thing that really matters is the 'something else' you do. Besides the getting dollars all your whole life through. It's just teaching others day by day. The sunshine that you scatter all along your way. The kindly help you’ve given when a student needed a friend. The service that you've rendered - the helping hand you lend. It brings a joy that is lasting - which money cannot do - To know that someone's gladness is just because of you.” As a faculty and student body, we wish for you the very best of everything and hope you can do some of the things you have longed to do when you could find time. Not serried ranks with flags unfurled, Not armored ships that gird the world, Not hoarded wealth nor busy mills, Not cattle on a thousand hills, Not sages wise, nor schools, nor laws - Not boasted deeds in freedom's cause - All these may be, and yet the state In the eye of God, be far from great. That land is great which knows the Lord Whose songs are guided by His Word, Where justice rules 'twixt man and man. Where love controls in art and plan; Where, Breathing in his native air, Each soul finds joy in praise and Prayer. Thus may our country, good and great, Be God's delight - Man's best estate. - Alexander Blackburn The Annual Staff would like to express their appreciation to the businesses that bought ads and the patrons that made contributions. LEARNING . . . THE NAME OF THE GAME Learning takes on many shapes and fashions as shown in the pages of our yearbook. What's it all about . . . Is it just for the moment we live . . . Learning . . . it's for more than just the moment. Completing a science project, doing research in the library, learning the keyboard of a typewriter, completing an accounting project, competing in the scholastic awards test . . . it's all for the future. We LEARN TODAY what we will USE TOMORROW. GOD BLESS AMERICA The history of our country has been surrounded by the blessings of God. From the day of its founding until today we can humbly say that God has had a peculiar love for this land. America was founded as a Christian Nation. Pericles built a civilization upon cul- ture and it failed. Caesar built a civilization upon power and it failed. Our forefa- thers built this nation upon Christian faith and she will stand as long as the Lord is her God. When the pilgrims landed at Plymouth Rock, they knelt and thanked God for giving them this new land. The Church of Jesus Christ was the center of each new commu- nity. When the Continental Congress, faced with great problems and difficulties, knew not which way to turn, Benjamin Franklin called the members of the Congress to fall upon their knees and pray. Can you imagine what would happen today if our great legislative bodies prayed more and talked less? Persia fell because of drunkeness. Egypt went down when she forgot Joseph and his God. Alexander the Great died in a drunken orgy and Greece fell. Rome was the proud ruler of the World, but luxury and lust ate at the center of her life and she too perished. Oh! America, land that we love, we must not build on these things! If we do, we will be ruined. We must put our faith in God and live for him. The picture of George Washington kneeling in prayer in the snow at Valley Forge protrays the spirit of America and what made her great. America must keep build- ing on the foundation of God if she is to keep on living. (Bro.
