During the intervening years, the armed services, marriage, and various other reasons have divided our ranks, until today, we are 46 happy co-workers. During our freshman year we showed unbounded enthusiasm for sports. Many of our boys joined the varsity. The girls were crowned champions in the intra- mural basketball competition. That year we elected Roberta Copeland as our class president. The thought of becoming seniors never entered our minds. We thought only of becoming sophomores the next year. After such a boisterous beginning we settled down quietly to work in our sophomore year. We elected Margie Barksdale as our president. Our interest in sports continued but we also learned that, All play and no work makes Jack a dull boy too. During the year our interests turned to humanitarianism. We raised the largest amount in school for the March of Dimes and were treated to a movie in town. We gave a musical program and used the proceeds to begin a record col- lection for the library. We started off our junior year with enthusiasm. We elected Robert Smith as our president. Don Morton was elected president of the Beta Club. Carl Henderson won the chapter Future Farmers of America speaking contest this year. We had great success with our Junior Play. We also entertained the seniors with the accustomed Junior-Senior Banquet. It was a gala affair, taking place in our school lunchroom. We left school that year wondering how it would feel to be seniors, and we were soon to learn. Our senior year rolled around quickly. On organizing our class we found that we had 27 boys and 19 girls. We elected Carl Henderson our president. Don Morton proved an excellent leader and again elected president of die Beta Club. Carol Reinhardt was elected president of the Future Teachers of America. Margie Barksdale was again a president, but this time of the Future Homemakers of America. Our interest in sports has not abated. Tommy Brock and James Ray Scott were captains of our football team. Dick Campbell was captain of our basket- ball team. Oswald Carroll represented our school in the Future Farmers of Amer- ica convention this year. Carl Henderson has won the chapter speaking contest again this year. Joan Smith was elected die Good Citizenship Girl this year. She represented our school at Montgomery. Our school was awarded the good sportsmanship trophy for Etowah County during the year. We feel that we played no small part in the acquisition of this trophy and we are justly proud of it. So now we are looking forward to graduation day as all seniors must. 1 am sure that we will treasure many happy memories of our high school days, our trials and joys and we can say; We did our best. SENIOR CLASS POEM While sitting in the classroom one day A great inspiration came our way; So we sat down and began to write About everybody who came in sight. Nancy Allen is quite a gal, She's everybody's pal. Franklin Amos is always gay; He's happier that way. Mavis Bishop and Reba Burke, Real friends in play or work. Next on our list is Helen Baker. Her middle name is Heartbreaker. Johnny Baker is tall and shy, Good-looking and a real swell guy. Margie Barksdale’s nice and sweet; She'll never know defeat. Tommy Brock is a dream. He's the captain of our football team. Dick Campbell is an actor indeed. Jokes, though, are his top speed. Oswald Carroll is the teacher's pet. Politics is his best bet. Betty Gaskin, all sweetness and light; She's a picture of peace and quiet. Donald Groover loves football. Studying doesn't bother him at all. Betty and Frances Hall are always jolly. Usually engaged in some kind of folly. Well, now, here is Joyce Hall. Charms the boys and carries that ball. Dorothy Hallmark, as we all know, Is strickly a lady from head to toe. Carl Henderson is one fine guy. Only Margie can make him sigh. Teddy Hill uses his allure To charm the girls, you may be sure. Lamar Hubbard is not asleep, Just resting is his favorite peep. Martha Hudson is mighty sweet. You never saw anyone so neat. Retia Irvin is always sweet. Fancy writing is her feat. Hershell Johnson is a wise boy; Teacher’s pet and all the girls' joy. Dixie Johnson is never on time. Bet he'll be the last in line. Dennis Johnson is really a sight. Eating and laughing are his delights. Bobby Jones is a real nice guy. There's nothing he won't try. Martha McCormick passes the test; Whatever she tries, she does her best. Jack McDowell will make the grade; Especially with that fair maid. Ann Milwee is next in line. She'll never be left behind. Don Morton is a very bright boy. Top grades are his pride and joy. Ray Mosley is our football star. Life to him is a girl and a car. Barbara Murdock is always gay. She’s bound to win her way. Robert Oliver really speaks his mind. And boyl has he got a line. Thomas Patterson is quite a guy; His mind is really up in the sky. Clifton Pounds has a ring in his nose. Ask Martha, because she knows. CLASS POEM Carol Reinhardt is on the road to success. With flying colon, she's passed every test. Max Russell is one smart guy. He'll succeed if he'll just try. James Ray Scott is tall and shy. We think he's one fine guy. Joan Smith likes to study her books. But she's also high up on good looks. Martha Smith has a pleasing smile. Clifton thinks she's worth-while. Robert Smith is a hard-working lad. When he succeeds, Barbara'll be glad. Wayne Tarvin will make the test; Anyway, he'll do his best. Wayne Taylor is very wild. To be such a nice sweet child. Mavis Walker, don't wait so long. If you do, he'll soon be gone. James Weathen isn't bashful, you bet. Success he’s bound to get. Junior Williams is deep as a well. Ask him, but he won’t tell. Charles Wofford is one true friend. Honest and loyal to the very end.
