On that memorable day our graduating class of 1953 took roots in the Sardis School under the careful cultivation of Miss Ella Street. The second year these tender plants, Billy Wayne, J. V., Ted and Peggy remained in the same room but advanced into the Second Grade. They were joined by Evelyn and Margaret who were transplanted from Happy Hill and Claudette who had been uprooted from Mt. Hebron. Vergie, first having taken roots at Pleasant Hill and wafted on gentle breezes to join the Third Grade under the watchful care of Mrs. Inez Norris. Wayne blossomed out to blend with the Fourth Graders after having been transferred from Whites- ville. In Miss Snead’s garden these students thrived heartily and at the end of the year were transplanted into Mrs. Betty Windsor’s garden of learning. Toward the end of the year Miss Ruth Terrell was given the responsibility of theirwelfare and with them was settled comfortably in the Sixth Grade the following year. Entrance into Junior High School was a day of great awakening. Here these promising specimens were joined by a host of similar varieties. Seventeen new plants came from Whitesboro, Carlisle and Center Point. During the year by a mixture of careful attention of Mrs. Fielder and Mr. Pruett and kind acts of nature, this group passed into the Eighth Grade at the end of the year to be placed under the patient care of Miss Ballenger. Here Barbara, a modest and rare specimen, was ushered into the midst from the furrows of Atlanta, Georgia. In the ninth year with Mrs. Powell's tender care Jack and Tom were added and the class proudly advanced one grade. In the prime of their brillance with Mr. Cassidy as a special aid these gay blossomsadded Shirley, Borden and Sammy to their intellectual ranks of Senior High School. In Mr. Campbell's hotbed 11 these precious specimens blossomed even more brilliantly because of the addition of Peggy McConatha and Harold Herron. At the beginning of our twelfth year in Miss Coe’s display window, we welcomed Dolan into our midst. The Climax of our High School career is reached and our greatest regret is that we cannot be replanted into the First Grade's fertile beds and be allowed to correct all mistakes as we repass through the first happy twelve years of school life.
