The play opened in London, Christmas Eve, and regressed to Scotland during the time of Mary Stuart, where it showed the feelings of the people toward their queen. The play ended with a Christ? mas Pageant showing angels bless, ing the manger. The angels were portrayed by Jacqueline Rothe, Gail Johnson, and Joan Rothe. CHRISTMAS PLAY CHRISTMAS PAGEANT The senior drama class, under the direction of Miss Helcn Doherty, presented the one act assembly play, THE MARRIAGE PROPOSAL, by Anton Chekof, as a class project. They designed the set and the costumes assisted by Mrs. Mary Richardson and Mr. MacGregor. The cast included Morley Beck, Jacqueline Rothe, and Alfred Santos. The drama course is one of the new halfeyear courses which has been started for the English IV students. In one glorious swoop on the sunlit afternoon that marked the end of the football season for Sar' atoga High School, the Blue Streaks dropped their rivals, the Mechanicville Red Raiders, l9 . 0, cap tured the county title, tied for Eastern Conference crown, set a defensive record for 39 years, and be! came the first Streak team in 31 seasons to wind up unbeaten. Much of the credit for the aforementioned ac' complishments should be given to Hutch Tibbetts, who in two years has done a remarkable job of a V rebuilding football fortunes here at the Spa city. 1948 found a veteran crew vying for jobs at the newly instituted football training camp. Optimism and the ability to take each game as it came rode Q a with the squad. Saratoga High opened its grid season with a 7 t tough northern foe, the Glens Falls Indians. With t- their brilliant forward wall yielding but 59 yards on the ground, the Streaks cakewalked in a game that was not as close as the 13 . 6 score would indir cate. Fleet Charlie Harrison was the big groundr gainer as the Streaks fashioned their victory by means of a powerful single wing formation. Cohoes, Saratogais next victim, might just as well have played Michigan. The Streaks were just as hot as Bennie Oosterbaanis powerhouse in fashion; ing a lopsided 33!O score. It was a grand day for the boys in blue and white as they piled no 315 yards. . 0n the ground and in the air. Big Ted Rydberg was the wholeshow as he gained 104 yards on 16 running attempts. The Bills were game and tough, but the boys from Saratoga' held a der cided edge. In the first half of the game played at Hudson, the Streaks looked anything but good. However, Saratoga turned on the heat in the second half to post 3. 25,0 victory. Unleashing a diversified attack, the Saratoga High School footballers walloped Scotia, 35,0, and thus rolled to their fifth straight victory. The Streaks Veitch skirts end. Downing attempts conversion. Sansiven', Schecter. annexed through the air as well as on the ground in coasting to an easy win. On the following Saturday the Streaks journeyed to do battle with the Eagles of Bethlehem Central High School. Before 2,000 spectators, the two teams battled to a scoreless tie in a dog'eat'dog clash. The whoie story lies in the sterling defense of both lines, each of which rose to great heights when the occasion demanded. Saratoga rounded out its unbeaten season by sub duing the Mechanicville Red Raiders in rather conr vincing style by a score of 190. When April rolled around, the outlook for base! ball had been very bad as there were few capable veterans at the various positions. Coach Fasulo had to make up a team of rookies that could give his pitching staff the needed support. Frank Rosse was put behind the bat for the catching assignments, and Norm Schecter and Jud Pemberton were alter! nated at second; Bill Leggett was put at shortstop with Ronnie Millis at third. Veterans KuenZel, Fer, guson, Harrison, and Farrington held the other posts on the diamond. After winning the .first game and losing the second, the Saratoga High team went on to win eleven in a row, including Memorial Day victories over Palmer, Mass, and South Hadley, Mass. The defeat at the hands of Burnt Hills was a big upset; but after this, Ben Fasulo had his boys battling every inning, and the results showed in the final figures. Jack Ferguson was the leading pitcher with a record of eight wins against no defeats, while Bobby Downing led the team at the plate with a .385 average. Coach Hutchin Tibbetts' cinderrpath warriors carried the blue and white colors to a creditable if not successful season. In their opening encounter, the Streaks showed an apparent lack of depth and thus went down to a defeat administered to them by Gallagher, Seymour and Co. of Lansingburg High. The score of the meet was 65'4T7 to 496 T 7. Glens Fallsi experienced and always tough Indians drubbed the Streaks in a duel meet at Hometown, U.S.A., the score being 7529. Once again, a few men bore the burden of pointrgetting for the locals. Jimmy Simonsi Gloversville team managed to eke out a win in their own invitation meet, barely beating Amsterdam. The Streaks were within shouting distance as they finished third. The point tabulation showed Glovers' ville to be the winner with 32 points, followed by Amsterdam with 30, the Streaks with 24, and Johnstown with 18. In the big Class B Sectional Meet at Johnstownis Knox Field, the pow erful Glens Falls contingent simply outclassed the field. The Indians piled up 55 points and thus recorded their fourth straight Class B Sectional title. Hudson was second with 29 counters, Gloversville had 20, Saratoga 18V2 and Johnstown 9V2. The highlight of the season for the Tibbetts men was the win picked up in their Sports Day. The Streaks showed their heels to six rivals in winning the meet for the first time since 1943. BUYS, SPORTS The Boys Varsity Club has again formed and has elected new oihcers. They are: Bob Veitch, President; Gerald Clute, Vice'President; John Groff, Secretary. A new constitution has been written and approved. During the basketball season, repre! sentatives of the club have worked at the concessions at the ball games. This has greatly helped to finance the clubhs activities. The club helped to sponsor the football teamhs trip to Hanover, New Hamp' shire, and plans further sponsorship of similar activities. C. activities have been under the direction of Renie Rollins, president; Wanda Greene, vicerpresident; and Ona Barron, secretary; treasurer. As their first activity, the girls sponsored a picnic in honor of the new G. S. C. members. This was the annual initiation party. The hRecf as usual, has been humming with such activities as hockey, archery, tennis, and soft; ball. During the winter months bowling and basket! ball have attracted many girls interested in these indoor winter sports. Other varied sports made the year a busy one. A J. C. has carried on its regular concession work at football and basket! ball games. hHot dogs, and ice cream have be come the bywords of the G. S. C. girls. A G.S.Cx Varsity Club Christmas party was given at the Field House. Plenty of food kept everyone busy after an appetiteebuilding scavenger hunt. During the year the girls have participated in playdays at Burnt Hills, Glens Falls, Waterveliet, Emma Willard, Cohoes, Lansingburg and Albany.
