Many of these students are in upper level courses, like third, fourth, or fifth year. A foreign language is not something to memorize for a test and then promptly forget. Many people plan to go to Europe or Mexico at sometime in their life, and speaking a foreign language is very helpful when traveling. The teachers emphasize the practical use of a foreign language. They believe that a person can only learn by experience, that more is learned by actually speaking the language than by sitting in class doing worksheets. At any time, if you take a walk down through the foreign language wing, you can hear one class discussing a novel they just read, another class listening to a tape, and another class doing an oral drill. Learning a foreign language helps people understand each other a little better. Young faces join classes New faces decorated the Sara- toga High School campus in a new class introduced by Mrs McFarlen. The class, Exploring Early Child- hood, studied about children from birth to five years. Their first se- mester was filled with learning and new experiences in preparation for the second semester Nursery School. The Nursury School housed twenty four children that did every- thing from painting to exploring the out of doors. The class was en- joyed equally by both the students and the children!
