Mr. Pierce has the kind of dedi- cation I wish we all had. The kind of dedi- cation that spurred him on to coach all last season despite a serious neck opera- tion and very deep pain. The kind of dedi- cation that made him coach our team against his son, who was playing for Los Gatos, a job most ordinary fathers would have found impossible. But you see he only had one son playing for Los Gatos, while he had 34 playing for Saratoga. I could write all day about the things this man has done for football, for they are numberless. There's another side to Mr. Pierce. When I first met Mr. Pierce, I knew there was something more to him than just a slight bald, good-natured man. He always seem to inspire an awe in those that meet him, but even with this awe, as he talks to you he puts you immediately at ease. You can talk to him as if you've known him for years, and you find yourself revealing very personal things that you would never tell anyone. This man has the ability to talk to anyone on any level and make him feel at ease because of it. I don't think any amount of words could truly do credit to him, and I hardly think that I am qualified to write the dedication to such a truly great man. THANK-YOU MR. PIERCE, thanks for your dedication, your long hours, your deep love for Saratoga, but most of all, thanks for being you. Ernie Pacioni Mr. Pierce is a great coach and a win- ner too, but besides being both these things, he's like a father to me and the rest of the people on the team. So far this year, we haven't done so well, but he doesn't give up on us. Actually, he seems to try only harder and he won't let us give up either. He encourages us to have pride in ourselves and work harder to show people that we're not quitters. After a game if we won or lost, he always has something to thank God for and he's always looking ahead. After two C.C.S. crowns and seven or more league cham- pionships, he could say, Well, this just isn't a good year. But he never says, can't. Rob Orlando
