Season full of high points The C Basketball season was a season with a lot of high points. Un- fortunately, not many of them had to do with the teams playing ability. We finished 4-8 defeating Monta Vis- ta and Sunnyvale twice each. All in all it was a fun season, and coach Calpin kept us prettyloose. We had the league's leading scorer, Jamie Miller, and some good ball handlers but most games were out-rebound- ed pretty badly. The starters, Jamie Miller, Mike Worley, Rob Hicks, Jim Hulme, and Jim Gragnola were al- ways hustling and never gave up. This season was a lot of fun for me, and the whole team really made it great. Vets strong for harriers This year's Cross Country teams continued their success under Coach Glenn Harmatz. Even though the varsity lost its first league cham- pionship since 1974, placing second to Fremont, they were 7-O in dual meets, Foothill Invitational champions, second in region and seventh in CCS. The last three years, our varsity teams have had a string of 24 consecutive dual meet wins, two league championships, one region championship, and a runner-up in CCS to Harmatz's credit! Craig Johnson, Bob Shawhan, and Steve Mohr were all-league. The girls' team showed what togetherness and hard work can do for a program. The went from absolutely no program in 1976 to 7-O in dual meets, Foothill Invitational champions, second in De Anza League by one point, and fifth in CCS. Diane Figliomeni was league and region champ, while Carol English, Sharon Elliot, and Jean Galli were all-league. The soph team was led by Tom Arno and Jake Avey to a third place in league with Keith Ross leading the frosh team. These three runners will be our top athletes next year along with varsity retournees Mark Gyorey and Keith Kanady. At the Cross Country Banquet on November 29, 1977, this was read to everyone: To Coach Glenn 'Willie' Harmatz: we the Cross Coun- try teams of Saratoga High School, would like to thank you for being all you have been to us-for forcing us to run during those cold, rainy days: for keeping the bears away at Yosemite: for helping us to achieve our full athletic potential. And we especially want to thank you for being more than our coach-for being our super friend during our high school careers. We wish you all the luck and success that you de- serve in all your future affairs. ln appreciation-Teams of '77.
