Success best sums up Saratoga high's Freshmen football season. Only one game was lost out of eight games played, giving the Falcons a second place berth in the De- Anza league. Many all league honors were awarded to several team members. Among these were first team: Tim Rafalovich, Kevin Tanner, Mike Morse, Tim Garcia and Mark Rosetta: second team Paul Ferreira, Greg Mitchell and Mark Jahnke. Jeff Arrillaga was named the most valuable back in the league. Twelve records were made by this years team including a 33 yard field goal by Jeff Arrillaga. The falcons were coached by Scott Downs, Al Ellenson, Paul Quickert, and Pete Bergna. lt was a really enjoyable experience coaching football , commented Coach Downs, not only because of their great talent, but because of their attitude and desire for excellence. At the football dinner served at the end of the season, Jeff Arrillaga was voted most valuable player, Paul Ferreira was voted most inspirational, and the captain award went to Mike Morse. On the freshmen level, there was a fifth quarter of play. This time period didn't count in the game score but allowed the coaches to see every team member play in a game situation. The greatest thing about winning, stated Coach Downs, is that it allows you to include every individual in a positive experience. Play was much improved in all aspects of the game, but lack of experience is still evident. The JV team had a little more success with a 4-8 showing, while the frosh team posted a 5-7 record. This years outstanding player was Senior, Erik Peterson, followed closely by Junior, Charles Shepard. Most inspirational player was Junior, Bob Tobiason.
