ASB Gfficers rekindle school spirit Being Student Body President has taught me that it takes an awful lot of energy to work with so many dif- ferent kinds of people. lt has shown me that sometimes you have to work with what you've got, not what you want. One thing l've noticed this year is that the apathy that still exists at Saratoga is more evident among the faculty and administration than the students. Whether it is the result of the work done during our term, or the influence of Mrs. Perry, or just a natural tendency in students, or just a combination of all three, one of this year's accom- plishments has been the rekindling of school spirit and student involvement. This has been reflected by the in- creasing participation in rallies, dances, and extraciricular activities in general. I had only been in student government for one year when I became student body vice-president and it was a super honor for me to be elected. l wanted to focus on two main areas this year: communication and student activities. Jon and l often tried to spice up the announce- ments in the morning with the adventures of Captain Galaxy the morning calesthenics announcing what that days lunch would be and other weird things, but it was all to get your attention. We also expanded the stu- dent council by adding one member for every third period class to get more feedback from students. As far as activities are concerned, I tried to have some- thing going on for every open Friday night on the calen- dar, as well as some Saturday nights. We tried some new activities this year like parent-teacher sock hops, fun nights, a hypnotist show and dance concerts, and they all went over pretty well. More people seemed to par- ticipate because of the different things we tried, but it was activities director Mrs. Karen Perry, with all her sup- port and encouragement, that really gave school spirit the shot in the arm that it needed. -Ann Skidmore Right, Student representative to the board, Parie Jensen.
