Deadlines peril Talisman staff I really didn't understand what a responsibility I had as editor un- til that first deadline. The first day in class when I presented my plans and ideas for the Talisman to the yearbook staff. I was excited and anticipated the best book Saratoga High had ever seen. All I needed was a motivated staff and a lot of patience. I found out soon enough that my patience was limited when it came to teaching how to do layouts, proportion pictures and type copy. And I guess many on the staff didn't like me too much, especially just before a deadline when l'd constantly be on their backs for pages due. As you flip through your book, glance at the pictures and skim the copy. I hope you'll think about how much work went into putting the yearbook together. Adrienne Cordova Cmy co-editorj and I worked hours and hours on these pages, worrying and praying that they would be good and you would like them. The yearbook staff was the best l've seen in years and l've been on the staff since freshmen year. They were cooperative and did their best. And I never could have made it without Adrienne who did all the worrying enough for the both of us! -Cheryl Lloyd This Page Upper Left: photographers, John Kent, Reuben Viva, Craig Fulgham, Ernie Paccioni. Journalists expend time, effort While the school newspaper, the Falcon, takes only about ten minutes to read, well over ten hours of work are put into each issue. Any member of the journalism class can attest to this fact, they are the ones responsible for all of the writing and production work ex- cept for the final printing, which is done at the district office. Staff adviser Mr. George Scott maintains an informal atmosphere in the classroom, giving the editors some freedom to experiment and learn by trial and error. Almost everyone is constantly working, but there is no one busier than than the editor and chief typesetters who have, on occasion, stayed at school until 7 p.m. adding finishing touches to the paper. Although the official journalism class doesn't begin until fifth period, many staff members are in PO6 during lunch to help out with the typesetting, headline-making, proofreading or to finish up Top Left, Business Manager Ann Skid- more. Top Right, First Semester Editor Jeff Peline Bottom Right, Back Row D. writing a story. Whether it is brought on by the mutual responsibility of getting a paper out, or the informality of the class, or the common interest in journalism, there is a closeness among staff members that can't be found in other classes. Some of the more dedicated staff members also share a kind of unique craziness. lt's not an uncommon sight to see Martin Tuttle mumbling a passage from The Wizard of Oz after hitting a kill line on the typesetting machine for the sixth time, or editor Jeff Pelline singing Moon River while proofreading co . 'Pyguess those guys spend too much time in PO6, explained chief typesetter Del Leu, wearing a pair of authentic Mickey Mouse ears for no good reason at all. -Ann Skidmore Leu, M.Larson, K.Keuhl, R.Sawyer, B.
