in--. Although this year's Junior Varsity soccer team con sisted of three sophomores and fourteen freshmen they managed to put up quite a battle against their bigger, more aggresive opponents. A small, but very skillfull team, they used grace rather than force to conquer the majority of their opponents in the new league. Girl kickers Left, Mindy Pinsker fights for control ousness. Bottom, Girl's Soccer team. debut '77 The year 1976-77 was the first for the girls' soccer team at'Sara- toga High. The players thought it would be hard to start playing together as a team, especially with our first game less than a week away, but our coaches gave us the coaching we needed. The temporary coach, Mr. Costanzo, helped us out during the first week, while our regular coach, Mr. Goni, coached football and so Mr. Costanzo retired undefeated as our first game was cancelled the other school didn't have a team! Through all the screaming of names, the orders for sprints, the yells to dribble, to calls of panic to pass it, the team became closer friends. We all either met new girls, or furthered our friendships with old friends. Everyone is learning to take criticism, and realizing how much prac- tice improves our game.
