Girls' basketball adds two new coaches Girls' basketball in '77 was the best ever. With the addition of two coaches, each team had a coach of its own. The girls worked out with coach Wilson and the boys' basketball team in the beginning of the year to get in shape. Spirit was higher than ever. The players had respect and admir- ation for each person. Every person had an important role, and if someone started to fall down, there was always someone ready to help and get her back up. -Aimee Toussaint I think all sports are great, especially basketball! This year Saratoga High School has two new coaches, Donnie Mason, the C coach, and Becky Orahood, the J.V. coach. They are both really good coaches and know what they are doing. l think they're doing a super job. We also have Ms. Sue Gordon, our varsity coach, who has been coaching girls' basketball here at Saratoga for four years straight. What I really like about our J.V. team is that everyone works to- gether to win and guess what? .. . we do win! -Karen Holtemann

The Saratoga Varsity soccer team, as was expected, won the league again. Although they entered the tougher, more competitive DeAnza League this year, that did not stop the Falcons from compiling a perfect record in league play. The varsity team was rated number one early in the season and kept that rating by defeating every team in their way. The only flaw came in the Blackford Tournament where they tied O-O Against Sunnyvale. With a 21-O-1 record, they took on Leigh in the C.C.S. final on March 5. Leigh scored in overtime on a controversial offsides. Many think the game and championship was stolen from Sara- toga. . . Scoring came from forwards Ted Rafalovich with 21 goals, Eric Price 17 goals, Kevin Hamilton 14 goals and Alex Viva 7 goals. The remaining 15 goals were scored by assorted halfback and forwards. The offen- sive unit was well balanced, skilled, and accurate as a season high 74 goals were scored. The defense consisted of the much talked about Ozone Layer in which fullbacks Kevin Vandermate, Jon Lindstrom, Mark Graham, sweeper Ruben Viva, and much improved goalie Jeff Burke, retalliated con- tinuous threats from opponents. All-League players from Saratoga were forwards Kevin Hamilton, ERic Price, halfback Alex Viva, and full- backs Ruben Viva and .lon Lindstrom. Honorable men- tion went to halfback Vince Tubbs and goalkeeper Jeff Burke. Eric Price received DeAnza League most valuable player. Selected to C.C.S. All-Tourney team forwards Ted Rafalovich, ERic Price and fullbacks Jon Lindstrom, and Ruben Viva. Ted Rafalovich was also named most valuable offensive player in the C.C.S. playoffs.
