J.V. Cagers tied for f With the season about half over, the junior varsity basketball team has compiled an impressive 5-1 rec- ord in league play, and a 12-4 overall record. In the new DeAnza league, they have defeated Sun- nyvale 55-32, Homestead 50-39, Lynbrook 51-43, Monta Vista 38-32, and Cupertino 44-32. Their only defeat was in the hands of Fremont, where the final score was 41-34. They are presently tied for first place with Lynbrook and Fremont. irst place in league According to coach Joe Calpin, we are definitely not playing up to our potential - but we're still winning. Junior Mark Pattin is optimistic about the outcome of the season, stating we SHOULD win the rest of our games, the Ieague's pretty easy. The team is led by captains Jaime lVliller and Neil Hickman, and spurred by high scorer Mark Chamber- lain, who is a junior.

Freshmen pleased despite disappointing year Although their season did not reach their high ex- pectations, the freshmen basketball team was not al- together disappointed with themselves. lt was fun because I made a lot of friends and l really like the competition and teamwork involved, says freshman Keith Barna.
