New dean finds Spirit! Quite a broad topic to write on-three hun- dred words she said, whew! How do I write thirty words or three thousand words on what I feel-what I see? How can I write in flowing verse or non-verse what I hope will dominate not only the Saratoga students days-academic and activities-but their entire lives. Spirit! The scholars define it as an enthusiastic loyaly to ones school, a mood, a disposition. Individuals, Saratoga High School individuals define spirit as every- thing from football to German Club from cleaning the campus up to striving for A's on a test. They wear their red and blue and grey proudly because somewhere in their hearts or their minds or their emotions they know that the word Saratoga means more than a com- munity but a communion: more than a committee, but a commitment to excellence. What is the force that pulls the football team together Cthat's the word - together J to win a coveted cham- pionship? What is the force that propels scholars to do spirit' varied their best - be it a National Merit Nomination, a C.S.F. award, or the very best they can do - whether it be an A or a C. What is the power that moves the spirit squad, the Pep Club, the rooter's to support athletic teams and athletic teams to practice in order to succeed? What is the strength that propels people - teachers, staff mem- bers and students, administrators and parents to get involved in all that is Saratoga? lt's that commitment to excellence. The desire to do the very best in every- thing we Saratoga High School lovers set out to do - that's the power I see, that force that lfeel.-That's spirit. - Karen Perry Opposite Page: Top: Donald Brand, Principal: Bottom Left: Marion Kenworthy, Vice Principal: Bottom Right: Salvador Furrato, Vice Principal: This Page: Top: Karen Perry, Dean, Director of Student Activities: Don Boysen, Dean: Dr. James Regan, District Superin- tendent: Below: District School Board: Bottom: Mrs. Beatrice Mar- chetti, President: Mrs. Maxine McGinnis: Mrs. Louise Cooper, Clerk: Top: Dr. Jack Hoffman, Vice President: Mr. Berton Altmann.

Change marks counseIor's debut Change keeps ruts from getting too deep, water. from growing stagnant, and keeps people alive active with new experiences and challenges. My from the role of a teacher to that of a counselor been an interesting and challenging one this year. new position as counselor has provided me with a perspective on the problems, frustrations, victories and achievements experienced by students. The t educational program of Saratoga High School has been observed from a different angle. One of the most exciting aspects of working teenagers is to observe the changes in each 5 as they progress from Freshman to Senior standing ' e Each change brings new achievements to be shared. Many problems that students faced were solved, some were not, and others will just need more time. And through it all this one thing I learned clearly: that is, that l have much to learn. -Henry Rogalsky problems to be solved, n HENRY ROGALSKY Counselor GARY FINNECY Counselor PH EOBE SCHULTZ Counselor HELEN FLEMING Counselor HUGH STEWART Counselor
