Social Studies has new additions Social Studies had a few new additions this year. First, a new class, World Affairs which was taught by Joe Calpin. Second, Ms. Velma Lim became the first full time woman on the faculty since Miss Mangum's retirement two years ago. Third, the social Studies fac- ulty got a new office with carpeting, and matching yellow cabinets. There was a new trend in teaching, going towards extending education beyond the classroom to where it is really happening. Teachers tried to get students to have first hand experience. Some, by having field trips to San Juan, a city built around tourism, to taking them to Safeway's distribution center in Richmond. Mr. Denny Daetz took several students on a live in study tour to Ghana West Africa. Dr. Hugh Roberts and Mr. Greg Bougerie, from the language department took about thirty-six students to Mexico for a week during the winter break. Steve Bruns and Jeff Roochian get excited in Social Studies.
