With Mr. Henry Rogalsky transferring to the coun- seling department, two new teachers, Mr. Al Ellenson and Mr. Bill Drennan, joined the Saratoga math staff. The math department is now the second largest in the school and despite some complaints about the rel- evance of algebra to the average Saratoga student, over three quarters of them are taking it or some other math class. Mr. Ellenson said that he enjoys teaching at Saratoga, finding the students unusually motivated and receptive to new ideas. He feels that this makes his job a good deal easier, especially when compared to the other areas in which he has taught. The following are an approximate statement of my personalperspechve ofthe process we caH Saratoga Fhgh schooL At this point in time Saratoga High seems to be drift- ing DOWN STREAM in a larger national process. As a people we U.S. Americans are more and more electing to turn backs on the beautHuIchaHenge maced on our backs by the courageous vhhonanes of the penod in whkfiourcounhy wasfounded. We seem to be replacing the values of life, liberty and justice for all, with those of pleasure and convenience. We are failing to develop our awareness about the HIGH COST of supporting our pleasure and conven- ience. We are not really helping each other or our young peopm to devdop concern about how very ex- pensive our life style is in terms of misery and oppres- sion of our fellow human beings at home and abroad. We are not helping each other to develop an awareness and concern about ways we can begm to show our respectforthe deHcate bmance ofthe wheelofnature.
