With Mr. Henry Rogalsky transferring to the coun- seling department, two new teachers, Mr. Al Ellenson and Mr. Bill Drennan, joined the Saratoga math staff. The math department is now the second largest in the school and despite some complaints about the rel- evance of algebra to the average Saratoga student, over three quarters of them are taking it or some other math class. Mr. Ellenson said that he enjoys teaching at Saratoga, finding the students unusually motivated and receptive to new ideas. He feels that this makes his job a good deal easier, especially when compared to the other areas in which he has taught. According to tests given to high school seniors throughout the county, students at Saratoga ranked in the 90's in English related sub- jects. What better preparation is there for any ca- reer, and life in general, than knowing the basic skills of writing and grammar? No matter what field you enter - whether it's as a nuclear scientist, anthropologist, or newspaper editor, being able to read and write clearly is essen- tial, and according to the study taken, Saratoga students are pretty good at both! mu!
