Chess takes West Valley championship Saratoga's chess team captured the West Valley League chess Championship this year by defeating Branham, five games to two. Omar Billawalla was the team's standout, going un- defeated through the whole season. Troy Kirk and Isaac Engel are the only seniors on this year's varsity squad, so adviser Norm Wild expects a strong team to return next year. Solar Energy, one of the new and successful clubs to interest students, constructed solar panels to heat the small pool. Materials for the project were supplied by the school district, and the club's contribution to the energy conservation program was completed by March. Bottom: Working on the panels are Ted Jensen, Vance Piper, Ken Okuno, and adviser Mr. Bill Newman.
