Lone loss doesn't dampen swimmers Coach Susan Gordon's Falcon swimmers faced their first defeat in ten years against the tougher competition of the De Anza League this season. They had been champions of the West Valley League since 1965. Both divisions did manage to hold their own against the new com- petition however, as the varsity team took third overall and the J.V. Squad emerged second. During the season, the varsity team suffered only two dunkings. The first was against Homestead, one of the top C.C.S. contenders. The second was an upset caused by Cupertino, who combined the best swimmers from both their divisions to beat the varsity Falcons. Coach Marti Lipman's J.V. team won all but one of its meets, with an early season loss against Fremont marring an otherwise perfect league record. ln a way it's good to lose , philosophized Coach Gordon. At least it will give us more incentive to work. The varsity squad was led by freshmen Veronica Pal and Martha Evans, sophomores Kathy Maurer, Jennifer Hinshaw and Tina Broz da, juniors Sue Skidmore and Ann De Bennedetti and senior Jody Tatro. Outstanding J.V.'ers were sophomores Cindy Stevens, Denise Brown, Allison Berry and Maureen O'Haren Although they worked hard, the girls had fun, too. Sophomore Megan Mori recalls the season with these memories: .. Wild. And FUN! ... sore muscles ... Mrs. Gordon yelling at us to calm down on the bus . .. the guys Con the waterpolo teamj, acci- dently missing and throwing the balls in our pool FLlRT Diane Ferreira, could you please turn on the radio? our super- neat breakfast swimathon? 20 50's on the 45!
