Students trek south of the Border I can't believe it! We're here! Wow, look at this! These were just a few of the comments as a plane with 22 students and seven adults from Saratoga touched down at Mexico City International Airport, for a week's stay in Mexico. The trip was a combination of learning and pleasure, and if there ever was a more enjoyable learning experience, l can't think of it. We spent a total of eight days in Mexicog five in Mexico City and three in Guadalajara. The two cities were very different, but both had their good sides. Mexico City is the cosmopolitan center of Mexico. It seemed like the city never stopped. We went all over the city to see the sights, and we even traveled to the outskirts of the city a couple of times to go to Xochimilco Floating Gardens and the pyramids at Teotihuacan. In the city itself we saw Chapultepec Park, the Museum of Anthropology, the San Juan Market, and the Ballet Foklorico, to name a few. In contrast to Mexico City, Guadalajara was a very slow, rural city. There was very little hustle and bustle. The wea- ther was very nice, as evidenced by the fact that at eleven PM we were all running around in cotton tee-shirts. The hotel we stayed in used to be a convent, and it was surrounded on three sides by very old buildings. The city itself was very beautiful. I think the most important thing that everyone learned is that no matter how different two cultures are, there are always things in common between the two. People are basically the same everywhere. This Page, Top: Melanie Roberts and Barrie Brown bid adios to Mexico. This Page, Bottom: Mr. Bougerie helps some of the students with their bargaining.
