Sophs remember driver's ed. ,,,,,-nu These great bunch of guys make up the Saratoga and Los Gatos High School Driver Training,Staff. The classes which run after school, Saturdays, and holidays train over 900 students during the school year. The' course consists of two phases, Driver simulation and In-car training. The simulator, commonly referred to as the stimulator is de- signed so that students have the opportunity to learn driving pro- cedures, techniques, and methods of perceiving hazards. Each stu- dent has their own car which is identical to the real thing. CThey also break down like the real thing .J The students drive , following cars on a screen. CLook left, look right, proceed, remember that 821180 One advantage of Driver simulation is that the film can be stopped at any time to discuss common student errors. This would be ideal, says one instructor, if it were possible to do the same thing in the in-car portion of the course. lf a student does make an error in the actual driving, hopefully the instructor will catch it in time. One new nervous student asks, Are all those driver training stories true? And most instructors, their hair rapidly getting gray, slyly smile, nod and drive out once again with a new group of kids. -Donald Meyer Top Picture, Left to Right: Mr. Ceccato, Mr. Meyer, Mr. Hedegard, Mr. Shank, andlin the car, Mr. Wigger. Girls lead class again Well, they've done it again, the girls have taken over the sopho- more class offices as they did last year. I personally would like to see some opposite gender holding those offices. l'm not saying the girls did a poor job-heavens no!-but l've always preferred that other type of human being. Thank Goodness we'lI be juniors next year. Say, guys-how 'bout running for President or V.P.? l'm sure there are some of you leader- ship type guys out there-somewhere in this school. Speaking of girls, our class officers were very busy for us organi- zing fund raisers and activities. Among them was a Carnation sale for Valentine's Day. You wouldn't believe the admiration the kids showed towards one another. It turned out we could have sold three dozen more. A good day to remember. Our May 27 Dance, featuring Gabrielle, was an enjoyable evening with profits for our next activity. The class of '79 had such a great time their freshmen year at the beach, they decided to do it again. Sandy and burned, the under- classmen rode home for the last time together as a sophomore group. Now we made it through one year of high school Conly three more years to golj As we start our sophomore year we have many memories to carry us on. We've made friends and done things that we'll never forget. All of the people we've met have added to knowledge of life. As we continue through high school we will make more friends and be close to more people than at any other time in our lives. All of them will leave an impression that will al- ways be remembered. If we don't take advantage of this opportunity we're cheat- ing ourselves out of the best part of our lives. -Ted Hanson We are great this year since we're sophomores. This year we are better than freshmen! We're bigger, better, faster, stronger, more intelligent, responsible, reliable, coordin- ated, organized, taller, better looking, patient, experienced, Soph says: V. and respected than we used to be.
