Home Economics Home ec. classes stimulate creativit BOTTOM: Jill McFarlin, needle craft, ad- vanced decorative arts, house furnishing, foods I. Wendy Cosgrove, leather, ceramics. Barbara Simpson, human relations, sewing I, sewing II, tailoring, CENTER LEFT: Art class is a good time for Sophomore Kathy Burrel to catch some rays. Jill McFarlin's decorative arts students all made mandalas. Two years of decorative arts have opened my eyes to areas of expres- sion that I would never have known existed. I've learned about many different crafts and ways to make things using my own creativity. Dec. arts directly applies and helps me to do things I like to do outside of school. Many high school courses are intended for preparation for college, but with dec. arts one never has to ask, How is this going to help me later on in life? the an- swer is the satisfaction of seeing the results of your own efforts and creativity. -Cathy Johnson v --.b-as i

Mathematics Math students are still great The math department is a won- derful place, to add or subtract in the opposite base. Whether it's Algebra II with Mr. Rogalfsky or, or Bus-i-ness Math with Mr. Bar- oni. To find the square root of negative one, you've got to go ask Mrs. M. Halverson. To find out the area of a 3x4 box, an astute student will see Mr. Fox. To add two equa- tions and find out their sums, the best one to see is Mr. Williams. But I heard that this morning he had called in sick, so I'd recommend seeing ol, Mr. Dick. If you don't know the meaning of interpolation, Mr. Gibson will give you the right information. Don't do your math while dinner you're servin', go to the classroom that hides Mr. Irvin. When grading time comes and you need any favors, don't go to the room of Mr. J. Cavers. Go to the room of Mr. H. Wyman, but You've got to be careful and have careful timin'. If all else fails go play with the Wang, push the wrong button and BOOM, CRASE, KA- BANG! To all these teachers we offer our thanks, for taking so calmly our mischievous pranks! -Chis Utley lat 1 t ill l Y.. '4By studying mathematics, the student develops a disciplined thought process. The challenge and successful completion of solv- ing a problem is the student's intrinsic reward. -Bill Williams One thing that hasn't changed in the math department are the stu- dents. Teaching photography is fun an exact replica, take a picture Art K. ' . l 3 , lil TOP: Tony Pettis, jewelry, metal jewelry, Beverly Anshen, textiles, leather, drawing, advanced painting. Richard Daily, ceramics. Jim Hatfield, photography. Ann Tietjen, design and color. TOP LEFT: Senior Karen Kelly uses jewelry know-how to perfect her ring. Individualit finds self expression because the majority of the kids are so interested in the subject. -Jim Hatfield I started taking art here as a freshman and, like most beginning art students, I was into realism. I mean, to me, a painting had to be exactly like the real thing to be a 'good paintingi My art teacher told us over and over, 'If you want with a cameral' She taught us to experiment with other styles and techniques to express how we per- sonally saw a subject. Now my mind is more open to accepting other kinds of art. -Liz Barry Life without Mr. Hatfield is like a day with f!16. -Kim Butlar To me, the art department is a place to invest time, efforts and a creative mind. The material input can be so little in comparison to the personal gains. Your time, efforts, and creativity all tum into pleasure when the outcome is sat- isfactory to yourself and even others. -Molly Carroll Art is. -Mrs. Beverly Anshen
