Football Directed by Coaches Mike Devine and Don Branzuela the freshman football team had a highly successful sea- son in which they annexed five victories in six games. We had a very fulfilling season and many of these players should boost the varsity program in future years, commented coach Mike Devine. Rod Tiffee quarterbacked the squad that coasted seven excellent running backs. The top backs were Peter Bacci and Rob Orlando who each gained over 100 yards in five of the six games. The other fine backs were Mark Lianides, Dean Yoshida, Cy Tabari, Vince Stuller and Anthony Damore. On the other end of the aerial attack were tight ends Clay Biscarro and Ted Hanson, and wide receivers Mike McWeeney and Jeff Rankan. K? Football Saratoga's junior varsity had the best season of all the football teams, finishing with a record of nine wins, no losses, and a tie. We functioned as a total unit, with everyone pulling for the team rather than for personal glory, explained head coach Mike Costanza. The lone tie came against Leigh in a game in which the Falcons held a shutout until the final seconds of the game. The rest of the season saw the junior varsity go undefeated in league play, with a pre-season victory over Leland. The team was led by junior quarterback Rob Snyder and junior running back Matt Courtney who had a fine season featuring a 172 yard pro- duction against Campbell. This did not include an 80-yard touchdown run which was called back due to an untimely penalty. Steve Worman did a good job going both ways, playing defensive back and offensive receiver. Dave Cullinane played fullback and Hector Mon- tez squared off at center. Jon Templeton and Vince Milazzo were tackles and Paul Bressoud and Bob Pitman were linebackers. Dale Watson filled in as an interior line- man. In summation, it was a very fulfilling season. OPPOSITE PAGE, TOP RIGHT: Referee zips up the game.
